Real (approachable) Style Advice for Real (grown-up) Women withĀ
Real (smart) Budgets

August 24, 2025
Dear First name / friend,
Ā
Headed into the last week of August, I can’t help but think about how different (and easier!) this time of year feels when you don’t have kids heading back to school or college. For those of you in the thick of it, hang in there—I know it’s a mix of emotions, busy schedules, not to mention huge Target hauls.šŸŽÆ
Ā
Over here, Bill took last week off, and we played tourists at home—doing fun things in town and exploring the area. A highlight was Friday at the International Tennis Hall of Fame Induction Weekend. We enjoyed food trucks, drink tastings, the newly renovated museum (highly recommend), and even a ā€˜meet and greet’ with tennis legends like Patrick McEnroe, Chris Evert, and Gigi FernĆ”ndez.Ā
Ā
Saturday night's induction ceremony honored five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova and the iconic doubles team, identical twins Bob and Mike Bryan. There was a surprise appearance by Serena to introduce her former rival Maria - and I'm sure that was a highlight of the evening.Ā

Now as we head toward September 1st and Labor Day weekend (the unofficial ā€œendā€ of summer), I’m shifting gears a bit to focus on FALL and my favorite Style System of the year… all while still savoring every last beach day and this gorgeous weather.
Ā
And speaking of fall…that brings me to my first tip this week ---

1. Resist the Fall Shopping Frenzy šŸ‚
Every year, right about now, the internet starts screaming: ā€œBuy the new boots! Grab the trending jacket! Refresh everything for fall!ā€ šŸ™„
Ā
Here’s the thing: you don’t need to overhaul your closet to feel stylish this season.
Ā
Instead, let's focus on these simple tips:
Ā
āœ… 1. Start with a closet review
Ā
Pull out your fall clothes and see what’s already there. Chances are, you own more than you think—you just need fresh ideas for styling them.
Ā
āœ… 2. Identify your true gaps
Ā
Do you actually need new pants? Or do you just need better shoes to update what you already own? Pinpoint the gaps before you start shopping.Ā
A list and a plan!Ā
Ā
āœ… 3. Ignore the ā€œmust-haveā€ lists
Ā
Most ā€œmust-havesā€ are trends that come and go. Stick with pieces that fit your lifestyle (and body) instead of what influencers say you need.
Ā
āœ… 4. Refresh with accessories
Ā
Sometimes all it takes is a modern bag, updated jewelry, or a great scarf to bring last year’s basics up to date.
Ā
āœ… 5. Think versatility over volume
Ā
One versatile completer piece (like a modern blazer or cardigan) can give you dozens of new outfit combos—without stuffing your closet.
Ā
šŸ‘‰šŸ¼The bottom line: Fall style doesn’t mean a shopping spree. It means being intentional, editing with purpose, and wearing what makes you look and feel modern and confident.
Ā
Ā
šŸAnd if you’d like a little extra support putting this into practice, keep an eye out—the Fall Style System opens to everyone very soon. Helping you accomplish these tips is what I love to do.
Ā
2. End-of-Summer Outfit Idea šŸŒžāž”ļøšŸŒ™

As we head into late August, many of us are facing those tricky days where it’s still hot during the day but cools down in the evening (or when you’re inside with blasting AC🄶).Ā
Ā
Here’s an easy, polished formula to keep in your back pocket:
Ā
āœ… The Base: A black (or navy) sundress is the perfect foundation—breezy and chic, and it instantly feels pulled together.Ā
Ā
āœ… The Layer: Drape a lightweight knit cardigan over your shoulders. It adds polish during the day, and you can pop it on when the sun goes down or you step inside a chilly restaurant.Ā
Ā
āœ… The Accessories: Woven flats (or a neutral sandal) keep things comfortable and simple, while a structured woven bag adds just the right amount of texture and interest.
Ā
āœ… The Details: Gold jewelry (think bangles or layered bracelets) elevates the look without trying too hard.
Ā
šŸ‘‰šŸ¼ This combo works for everything from casual dinners out, to weekend errands, to late-summer gatherings. It’s a simple, no-stress way to look modern and pulled together while staying comfortable…using items that I bet are in your closet!
Ā
3. Random Find of the Week šŸ“šŸ“
šŸ‘‰šŸ¼ ā€œAnd since I love using this space to share little things that make life easier…
Ā
I’ve been using an app called RECIME, and it’s been a game-changer for organizing recipes I find while scrolling. Instead of cluttering my phone with screenshots, I can save everything in one place (it also has meal planning and shopping list features). Thought I’d pass it along in case it helps you too!
