What do you want?

Fall is here. Are you ready to have your best semester yet? We're here to help you do just that!

You're receiving this email because your TRIO program cares about your well-being and wants you to feel your best so you can do your best. Every Monday at 8 AM EST, you'll receive practical strategies, habit-building tips, and a spark of inspiration to help you thrive.

This week we're asking: What do you want?

Asking yourself this question at the start of the semester will help with:
  • Clarity & Focus: Pinpoint your priorities (academic goals, personal growth, friendships, health, etc.) instead of just drifting through the semester.
  • Motivation: When you know what you want, you’re more motivated to put in effort. It’s easier to study for exams or stay disciplined if you see how it connects to your bigger goals.
  • Time Management: Being intentional early on helps you plan your time around what matters most, reducing wasted energy on things that don’t align with your goals.
  • Self-Reflection: It invites you to check in with yourself—what worked last semester, what didn’t, and what kind of balance you want this time around.
  • Resilience: Having a clear sense of what you want gives you something to anchor back to when things get challenging.
  • Growth Beyond Academics: Asking “What do I want?” can also mean: Do I want to make new friends? Improve my mental health? Explore new interests? That broadens your college experience.

Take a few moments and answer these questions for yourself:
  1. What do I want to be proud of by the end of this semester?
  2. What challenges did I face last semester, and how can I handle them better this time?
  3. What does balance look like for me—and how will I protect it?
