Two falls ago, Owen and I found ourselves sitting in a hotel room in Singapore trying to decide what would be the most exciting place to visit next. A beach for surfing? Somewhere totally off the grid? 

 

I love those moments, when the world is at my fingertips + realizing that the next day I could be walking somewhere I previously didn't even know existed.

 

Always wanting to explore and see other cultures firsthand, I very intentionally planned my life to be able to do this.  

 

For this trip, we wanted a mix of cool culture, delicious fresh food, and stunning adventures! With that thought in mind, we decided on…Yogyakarta!

 

I know, I know, not the most famous location; more than likely you've never heard of it (I hadn't either, haha.) However, Owen had some big adventure plans for Java, and Yogya happened to be a perfect entry point to the country for getting settled in.

 

In Yogyakarta, you don’t need to spend much to live richly, a $1 train ride, streets with fun foods cooking, and a camera + sketchbook to catch all the action. A good reminder that freedom is about needing less and creating along the way.
