Challenges are challenging because there is a level of uncertainty we experience.  We crave stability and certainty especially during challenges and change.

If you’ve felt like life has been coming at you faster than ever, you’re not alone. Change and challenge seem constant, and uncertainty often feels like the only thing we can count on. In seasons like this, resilience isn’t just a nice trait to have—it’s essential. Here’s the good news: one of the simplest, most powerful ways to strengthen resilience and create stability is by practicing clarity.

Clarity is an essential strategy to conserve valuable energy and create greater employee engagement.

Clarity acts like a compass in the middle of the storm. It doesn’t make the storm go away or stop the surges, but it helps you know which direction to head. When you’re clear on your values, your purpose, and your priorities, you can move forward with confidence even when the path ahead is messy. Without that clarity, it’s all too easy to get swept up in the chaos and lose your footing.

Teams/board members regularly report chaos and unstable footing when there is a lack of clarity in:
-what their role is?
-clear expectations on the work and performance
-how to share ideas to improve workflows
-timelines/deadlines
-the why behind a change that impacts their day-to-day work

ALL OF THESE ARE PREVENTABLE.
A common barrier to the clarity:  hurry.  “I don't have time to explain, explore.”  The cost of hurry is high.

Communicating consistently on the things we can create clarity on if given attention, changes how people engage when the outside influences that are BEYOND OUR CONTROL create challenges for the team/board.

Clarity gives you the steadiness you need to take the next right step, no matter what changes are swirling around you.

Clarity and Team Culture
Getting clarity requires a culture of safety.  What happens when you ask, “Is there anything you need/desire clarity on?” or “What do we need clarity on to get the work done?"

Is that a regular question at meetings or reviews?

Is it safe for people to respond honestly with what they need clarity on to perform their job or is there fear of being seen as needy, incompetent, or annoying?

At the end of the day, clarity is more than just “nice to have”—it’s foundational to growing a culture of resilience.

Clarity creates sustainability for both the organization and the people working to bring the mission to life.

a next step:
-What is one thing, if you had clarity on would make your work less stressful?
-Who do you need to have a conversation with to move towards greater clarity?
