I've talked a lot in my classes in the last couple of weeks how it's not quite Autumn yet, but there's a palpable shift that tells us it's no longer Summer either. That's why I love that in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) they have a fifth season for this in-between time of ‘Late Summer’, the 4-6 week period before the Autumn Equinox. We've been exploring this in my classes, how this season in TCM is governed by the element of Earth, which is at its strongest in reflection of the fertile abundance of the harvest. Each season is also linked to an organ system that carries physical, energetic, and emotional significance and the meridian channels (pathways of Qi/vital energy that flow through the body) are those of the Stomach & Spleen, travelling down the front of the body and intersecting with our digestive organs.
This season is a brief but potent time between the peak of Summer’s fire and the fully inward turn of Autumn. It is the pause before transition, a time when energy naturally turns inward, seeking balance after the expansiveness of summer. It is a time to harness the qualities of groundedness, to cultivate stability and centeredness, to prioritise nourishment in all ways, and to create space for integration – assimilating not only what we eat, but also digesting life and our experiences.
As we move towards the end of the month, the inward turn of Autumn brings with it monthly practices that align with the rhythm of life's cycles. Below you'll find monthly opportunities from September-December to practice with me, with some much loved practices including, Shake the Dust, Sadhana Circles & Myofascial Release & Restore.
