I hear many people complaining about our country and what is going on in their world usually followed by “I will keep praying” or “but not sure what I can do about it.” It can feel very hopeless when you are just one person, but imagine if you were many!
What do I mean by that? I may not be able to do much other than keep contacting my state representatives about laws and things I feel are injustices, but if you really want to change the world then there are things you and you alone can do and have the power to do.
We can put our phones down and begin reconnecting with each other. Simply looking up at your neighbors and smiling can make someone's day and maybe change their attitude or mood which would change their energy and vibration.
We have become a society of ostriches, keeping our heads in the sand so we can ignore each other and what is going on in our communities and world. I grew up in a time where we actually knew our neighbors and looked out for our senior neighbors, do you know any of your neighbors? Do you check in with your senior neighbors? Do you have a neighbor whose yard may be overgrown and not kept? Have you checked in to see if they could use some help? Or do you just complain about it to anyone who will listen or post about it on Facebook?
How are you contributing to a better world? It seems simple, almost too simple, but put your phones away when out with friends and family. Begin engaging again in conversation and accepting other people's choices and beliefs without ego pushing your beliefs or choices on others. After all don't you want to be accepted for who you are, if so then why do think it's ok not accept others for who they are?
The other day while out I smiled at a senior gentleman and said good morning, he said good morning back and said people don't do that anymore and that hit me like a ton of bricks. Why don't we do that anymore? Why are we afraid to engage and say good morning or hello or hope you have a good day?
Why instead are we ignoring the people around us and ignoring the needs of our communities? If you want the world to change than YOU have to change. Think about what the world would be like if we just engaged and learned about each other instead of judging and condemning each other.
You don't have to agree with or believe what other people believe, but you do need to respect other's beliefs just like you would want your beliefs respected. You CAN change the world by SEEING the world and its people and you cannot do that with your face in your phone or staring down at the ground.
So, how will smiling and saying hello change the world? Think about it. Again, that smile or hello may change someone's day. And they just may smile and say hello to the next person and hopefully more people will be smiling and saying hello which will change the energy and vibration which will eventually change the world.
It may seem silly, but I sincerely believe this. Even if the person I smile at and say hello or good morning does not acknowledge me at all, I know it is still making a shift. We need to get back to our humanity and stop walking around like a bunch of AI's or zombies.
Next time you're out really look at people. Their eyes are full of sadness, fear, hopelessness or emptiness, almost glazed over. It's so sad to me that people have lost the basic of skills in our humanness - kindness and empathy. We have become a people of ego and judgement and we need to reconnect with our soul energy and reconnect with each other's soul energy - this is the ONLY way our world will change for the better.
So, I challenge you to reach out to your senior neighbors and say hello to people walking past you on the street or standing behind or in front of you in line. Do you even say hello to those waiting on you in stores or do you just do your business? I challenge you to re-engage!
