All the fall things

I hope you saw the title of the email and immediately sang it in the tune of Blink-182's song, “All the Small Things" because, well, that was the inspiration behind it.

I live for the fall season. We don't get much of one in California, which is sad, so I watch Gilmore Girls to get a feel for what that might look like.

It's small towns, breakfast dates at diners for pumpkin spice pancakes and heart to hearts over coffee. It's prepping for Friendsgiving festivities, it's making mashed potatoes (using The Pioneer Woman's recipe) for Thanksgiving shindigs and watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It's wearing oversized cardigans while sipping that hot and cozy drink with maple or pumpkin flavored syrup. It's curling up on the couch with a good book or watching your comfort show. It's perfecting the table scape for special dinners and festivities. It's chilly mornings and cooler evenings as the crisp fall air moves in. It's burning a candle that fills the air with cinnamon, apple, maple, pumpkin, mocha or nutmeg and other mixed spices. It's walking down the sidewalk in boots just to hear the leaves crunch underneath your boots and positioning it just so with your cell phone so everyone else can see on Instagram. It's acting like you've never seen the fall foliage before in your life and it feels brand new.

Fall feels like starting over. Maybe it's the smell of unopened textbooks, freshly sharpened pencils, walking into a classroom on the first day of school. It’s that final push before the year ends, the motivation to finish strong, whatever that means to you.

There’s just something so incredibly special about this time of year that I can never quite put my finger on. It always feels like magic, endless possibilities and the idea that anything can happen.
