Last week, our hot water heater decided to die on us. And let me tell you, being in the Poconos when it’s already chilly? Not ideal.
But my boys still need their daily bath (if you know, you know). So there I was, boiling pots of water on the electric kettle and stove and mixing them in the tub like I was running a 1900s homestead. Was it glamorous? Nope. Was it efficient? Definitely not. But it worked. |
|
And it reminded me of something I preach in business all the time: when things go sideways, you don’t need the perfect setup — you need a plan B. 👉🏻 Systems aren’t about avoiding every problem. 👉🏻 They’re about having a fallback so you don’t crumble when things break. Because overwhelm usually hits hardest when you’re caught off guard — laptop crashes, last-minute client fires, or yes… no hot water. But when you’ve got backups, workflows, and a way to reset quickly?
That’s when you stay calm, keep moving, and maybe even laugh a little while you pour boiling water into a bathtub. |

This week’s system shift? Stop typing it all out — record a Loom. |
|
Instead of writing paragraphs to explain a process or give client feedback: - Hit record, walk them through it on screen, and send the link.
- They can rewatch, pause, and actually get it without 47 back-and-forth emails.
- You save time + mental energy, they get clarity, everyone wins.
I use Loom for everything from client onboarding to team instructions. It’s simple, fast, and honestly one of the biggest sanity-savers in my business. |
|
Most of my client relationships are virtual — Zoom calls, shared docs, and Voxer messages. But this? This is different. For the first time, I get to work with a client in person — and I can’t tell you how refreshing it feels to step out from behind the laptop and actually be in the room. That client is T.H. from T.H. Experiences, and let me just say: she’s the queen of turning an everyday moment into an unforgettable experience. (Like, she literally created the Food Truck Mash-up that grew into a multi-city sensation — all as a one-woman powerhouse. 👑) |
|
Now she’s bringing that same magic back home to Bergen County, NJ — with events that mix community, business, and a whole lot of fun. Case in point? The upcoming Teaneck Tailgate. What started as a pro-sports-style tailgate is now a full-blown community event with food, local vendors, families, and a vibe that makes you want to stay all day. If you’re anywhere nearby, don’t miss it — this is the kind of event that makes you proud to be part of the community. And if you ever need a marketing genius who can turn your wild idea into a sold-out, next-level experience? T.H. is your girl! (Let me know and I can make an intro!) |
