Dear Sunday Sparkers,

Unlike what I suspected, I did not die.

I had not one, not two, but three hard conversations last week, but I did not die after as I thought I would, or as my nervous system thought I would. My heart was racing fast, and my breath got shallow before starting the hard conversations (yes, I started them), as if I was entering a life-or-death situation. That's how our body thinks of confrontations. But we need to talk ourselves into doing them. We need to calm ourselves and believe that we are just scared of the uncertainty ahead. We will come out the other side with more clarity, at the very least, and, if lucky, some relief and closure.

Why do we need to have hard conversations?
  1. Inner Peace. Talking it out is better than the ugly alternative: keeping it in your head.
  2. You replace assumptions with statements and real-life perspectives, not your analysis of what happened.
  3. You set boundaries about what is okay and not okay in how you want to be treated and spoken to.
  4. You practice courage.
  5. You practice all the tools you have been learning in your sunny days. Conflict is the ideal time to use them.
  6. It's a chance to practice staying grounded in your body and connected to your heart rate and breath.
  7. It's a chance to learn the importance of taking a pause when you feel things get heated.
  8. It's a chance to renew your faith and ask God to bless the conversation.
I learned a great deal about conflict from listening to interviews about it with the author of the book High Conflict, Amanda Ripley. Here is the difference between high conflict and healthy conflict that I asked AI to create for you based on this episode of the We Can Do Hard Things podcast.

I will never get used to having hard conversations. They are called hard for a reason. But we need to have them to move forward.

The hard lesson I learned about hard conversations was to have them sooner rather than later. Don't let things stay in your head for too long.

Personal update:

  • Last week, I hanged out with my dear friend and Jordanian author Natasha Tynes who has been living abroad for 20 years and is a role model to me in many ways when it comes to the creative life. Check her latest book and amazing blog and podcast YT channel.
  • I started a 100-day challenge to exercise for 5 minutes each morning on September 22nd (though I should have started on September 23rd if I wanted December 31st to be the last day 😅). I am also tracking my 10-minute writing practice, and today I decided to include decluttering for 15 minutes each day.

Here’s the exact prompt you can copy, paste, and use with any AI assistant (like Gemini, ChatGPT or Claude) to create a tracker that fits your life.

Copy-Paste this Prompt to AI:

I want to create my own habit tracker.

Please generate a [number of days]-day habit tracker starting from [start date]. Details:
  • I want a portrait one-page PDF with a grid layout (one cell per day).
  • Each cell should include:
    • Day number
    • Date
    • [number] habit checkboxes labeled with my chosen habits: [list your habits here]
  • Example: “Create a one-pager 100-day habit tracker starting from September 23, 2025, for 3 habits: Workout, Writing, Decluttering.”

OR: You can print and use my nicely designed monthly habit tracker each month (October's tracker gift is below).

High Conflict
We Can Do Hard Things

Snapshot from my week: Started the challenge. Five-minute workout that I follow on video.
Targeting 80 times, minimum is 70 and wow is 90 (MTM method: Minimum Target Maximum)

Here is your weekly dose of The Sunday Spark ⚡️a newsletter listing 3 sparks that I thought were worth starting your week with.  It's the quotes edition; 3 quotes from 3 books I read and loved. The theme is Money!  Just like October's calendar theme :

1. 💬 "Saving money is often associated with sacrifice. However, you can associate it with freedom rather than limitation if you realize one simple truth: living below your current means increases your future means. The money you save this month increases your purchasing power next month."
― James Clear, Atomic Habits

2. 💬 "The more you put your Future Self in debt in terms of health, learning, finances, and time, the more painful and costly will be the eventual toll. There will be a lot of interest to pay if you continually accrue debt. Everything you do can be categorized as either a cost to or an investment in your Future Self. Costing your Future Self means you’re more focused on present or short-term rewards over long-term consequences. Costing your Future Self means you’re consuming far more than you’re creating. Every little action adds up. A cost makes you less healthy in some way, whether mentally, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, or physically. If repeated, costs make you fatter, lazier, hazier, and less connected. A cost is something that comes to control you, rather than you controlling it."
― Benjamin P. Hardy, Be Your Future Self Now

 3. 💬 "Rule Two: Embrace Your True Expenses, combines the power of thinking ahead with taking action here and now. Whether expenses happen like clockwork (rent), feel impossible to predict (car repairs), or are just far-off dreams (cash for a wedding), they are all part of your true expenses. The key is to prepare a bit at a time by treating them all like monthly expenses."
―  Jesse Mecham , You Need a Budget

P.S. Let’s chat if you are considering hiring me to guide you towards your goals and positive habits in 1-1 sessions (2 spots available for the month of October and it could be you!) or to train your team about the science of effective planning through goal setting, building habits, mastering time management for better performance and productivity, or the art of  beating burnout.
