Haunted Happenings at Capital Prime: A Night of Frights & Forks

It was a dark and stormy night at Capital Prime. The lights flickered. The wine chilled. And something was… off. As midnight crept in, the kitchen whispered. Plates rattled. Knives gleamed a little too brightly. And from the sizzling shadows, they emerged…

Filet Mignon, our dashing hero, seared to perfection and dressed in rosemary demi-glace, strutted out of the broiler room. “Something’s wrong,” he said, slicing the silence. “I smell… ghost butter.”

From the raw bar, Scallops Rockefeller shivered on his half-shell. “It’s not just ghost butter—it’s Martha! She’s back!”

Just then, the chandelier dimmed, and a gust of cold, vinaigrette-scented wind blew through the dining room. Emerging from the shadows in a swirl of greens and goat cheese came Martha’s Vineyard Salad, translucent and haunted, with pinenuts floating eerily midair.
“They should never have taken me off the summer menu…” she moaned. “Now, I hunger for revenge… and croutons.”

Filet drew his steak knife. “You don’t have to do this, Martha!”

But before she could respond, the floorboards trembled. The ground split open (near the specials board), and up rose the formidable Tomahawk Steak, bone-in and ready for battle. “You dare disturb the peace of the prime cuts?!” he roared, his rib jutting like a battle axe.
Joe Mama’s Perch swam frantically through the air like a ghostly koi. “This is why I stay fried! Ain’t no hauntin’ in deep-fryin’, no sir!”

From the dessert station, an eerie giggle echoed. Slowly rotating on a porcelain pedestal was Caramel Carrot Cake, sweet yet sinister. Her frosting cracked into a crooked grin. “No one escapes the final course…”

The dishes clashed in a clattering showdown—salads flinging croutons, steaks tossing sizzles, scallops spinning like edible Frisbees. But just before chaos consumed the kitchen, a voice boomed from the wine cellar:

“ENOUGH!”

It was Chef. The real one. Still wearing his toque and apron, even in the afterlife.
“You are Capital Prime! You are elegance, flavor, and fine dining! You will not haunt this establishment… without reservations.”

The food froze. Literally. “Martha" faded back into the menu. “Tomahawk" returned to his cutting board. And "Carrot Cake" quietly chilled under glass.

Since that night, the staff sometimes hears whispers from the pantry. A phantom sizzle. A rogue crouton tossed by unseen hands. But service continues, flawlessly.

So next time you dine at Capital Prime… take a closer look at your plate. If your carrot cake winks… don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Phantom Feast at Capital Prime: Ghostly Gala Shakes Steakhouse Staff

LANSING, MI – Last night’s private tasting event at Capital Prime took a spectral turn when the upscale steakhouse was reportedly haunted by a mysterious “ghost guest” who RSVPed... from beyond the grave.

The private dining room—meticulously prepared by William Kirby, the ever-diligent Private Event Coordinator—was set for 12. But at 7:06 PM, a 13th chair pulled itself out from the table.

“I counted the chairs three times,” said Kirby, white as a crème brûlée. “Then the wine glass at the empty seat shattered on its own. That’s when I knew... we had an uninvited guest.”
Heather Hulett, the no-nonsense General Manager, attempted to brush it off. “It’s drafty,” she told staff. “Maybe the HVAC is just being dramatic.” However, when the bar’s lights flickered in Morse code spelling out BOO, she reportedly muttered, “Okay, that’s new.”

Back in the kitchen, Executive Chef Scott Finch and Sous Chef Chris Snider were plating filet mignon when the temperature dropped 20 degrees.

“All the steaks were medium rare,” said Snider, “until one came out blue. We didn’t cook it that way.

Bartender Adam Ehlrich tried to soothe guests with a signature spooky cocktail—the “Corpse Reviver #1313”—but the bottles began levitating. “The gin was FLOATING, man,” Ehlrich said, lighting a sage bundle with a wine cork torch.

Meanwhile, Supervisor Ryan Cosiglia attempted to calm the back-of-house staff, but every time he spoke, the speakers played "Somebody’s Watching Me."

Owners, Joe and Kerry Goodsir arrived around 8 PM to investigate. “We thought maybe it was just some Halloween prank,” said Joe. “But then Kerry’s phone got a calendar notification for a reservation... in 1865.

Manager Bethany King took command of the situation. "I asked the ghost to sign a liability waiver. It wrote 'BOO' in perfect cursive." The ink was later tested and found to be... Chianti.
Despite the fright, the event was considered a success—though no one ate the 13th dessert, a perfectly untouched pumpkin crème brûlée that refused to melt.

Capital Prime will remain open for business, but management has decided to rename the private room “The Phantom’s Den” and offer ghost tours every Friday the 13th.

“Next time,” said Kirby, “we’re charging extra for the paranormal experience.”

This month we would like to introduce you to Catherine Castelan, “Cathy” began with Capital Prime in 2017, and recently returned to serve our guests with her food and wine knowledge, along with her gracious enthusiasm. When asked what keeps bringing her back, she says, “absolutely everything!!” From the warm, elegant atmosphere to the exceptional service, I gravitated back to Capital Prime and the beautiful souls in this place.”

Cathy’s attention to detail and motivation are a few of the things we find most valuable. Her flexibility and well-rounded abilities make her a great asset during service. “I love serving in general” Cathy states.

Cathy was born in Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico. “I don’t remember much because our family relocated, and I was raised in “little old Alma, MI”. After graduating, Cathy made Lansing her permanent home in the summer of 2011. “A positive life, one that is full of love and laughter, is what I am passionate about”. One thing Cathy prides herself on is “staying Godly, thru all my trials and tribulations!!”

Things I want people to know about me are “I am a loving, single mom with two wonderful children. I have the strength and vision to be helpful in all situations, and I love being generous to all my fellow staff members and enjoy the guests I serve.

Thank you Cathy, for returning to the Capital Prime family, and sharing your experience and positivity to all you encounter.
