🜁 September: A Threshold of Balance
September is my favorite month.
It’s my birth month, so of course it resonates deeply with this thoroughly Libra being. (Five planets and my rising in the sign of the scales — all in the 12th house. IYKYK)

The Fall Equinox and my birthday a week later arrive as a ritual pause — a deep breath at the threshold of balance, where day meets night, where past meets future. Here I hold both directions at once: integrating where I’ve been and opening to where I’m going.

Balancing duality is about learning to hold opposites — darkness and light, gravity and levity, strength and surrender — without collapsing into either side. Paradox is where the alchemy happens. By allowing contradictions to coexist, a deeper equilibrium is found.

In sculpture, bronze, dense and enduring, embodies gravity while holding the fleeting breath of a gesture. In riding, a horse asks for both softness and strength. In life, resilience is the paradox: comfort is born through discomfort, expansion through challenge.

🜃 Equinox
These paradoxes shaped Equinox — a bronze begun on the Spring Equinox and completed on the Fall Equinox. This maquette was created to envision a larger bronze on the scale of Mutual, whose edition is nearly sold out.

Equinox is born of the pause between equal day and night, a form that holds both gravity and lift, curve and edge, shadow and gleam. A reminder that balance is not stasis — it is the art of living inside paradox, letting both sides breathe through you.

At its heart is a simple, tender gesture: horses meeting breath to breath, mirroring the balance of yin and yang, strength and yielding,  at the threshold of equal light and dark. And the paradox — with a wink — is that this tender moment horse people know so well is often followed by a very dramatic squeal and stomp. Can you hear it? It asks: can you hold the tender and the sweet alongside the provocative and the challenging- and stay present?

🜄 On the Road: Quest for the West
I’m honored to be included in the Quest for the West Show and Sale at the Eiteljorg Museum earlier this month. I was invited to create this year’s keepsake: Momento — a feather in bronze that carries the paradox of lightness made solid, a fitting companion to the themes of balance I’ve been living. Seraph’s Echo, another bronze feather, was also featured in the miniature show.

Debuting at this show was Cadence, the piece you may remember in clay from the Summer edition of O Muse! Now complete in glass and steel, it steps into its own rhythm within this exhibition — appearing alongside Valence (the double bison in cast glass and steel) and Magnetic (the double horses in cast glass and steel).

Next year's works are already in progress. It is a lot of pressure to create 4 new pieces and have them through the foundries in under a year. phew!😮‍💨

Invitation
As we cross this equinox together, I invite you to pause with me.
Notice the balance you carry: what you show and what you rest, what you hold and what you release.

May Equinox be a mirror of both stillness and becoming.

P.S. Let me know what it is you would like to hear in O Muse!  I'd love to craft it in a way that resonates. 💚

The Event at Rebecca Farm |  We had one rail that knocked us from 3rd to 7th, but isn't that ribbon beautiful! I has been a goal of mine to do this event with Mo in Kalispell, MT at lest once more.  How wonderful to end up in the ribbons!
