Welcome back to Beyond the Tour where twice a month you'll receive practical tips and resources to help you get better at what you do.

Let's get started.

If You Do One Thing This Week:
1. 🎯 Create a Cheat Sheet for Teachers
I'm picturing a simple, one-page guide to help teachers during classroom visits, Back to School Night, Open Houses, or when families drop by.

Even if teachers don’t think of themselves as part of the admission office, many parents will turn to them during a visit. Giving teachers guidance around how to interact in an admission moment will help them and it will help you.

I love a good win-win.

Here's a template cheat-sheet for you to get started.

2 Tips to DO MORE:

2. 📋 Keep improving… through data.

Get to know what worked (or didn’t) in your admissions calendar from the parent perspective

This is an ideal time to survey parents and ask them about the admission process. Doing this gives you actionable feedback and helps you refine for next cycle.

✅ What events were the most helpful?
✅ Which events did they attend that didn't really move the needle for them? ✅ What do they wish they had the opportunity to learn during the admission process?

Send out a quick survey that takes 5 minutes or less for them to complete. Throw in a Starbucks gift card to the first 5 people who respond. You'll get rich data to help you in your next cycle.

This is how we work smart, my friends.

3. 🎭 Faculty Directories: Your Secret Marketing Weapon

Parents aren’t just asking, “What does the curriculum look like?” They’re really asking, “Who’s going to be with my child every day?” That’s why your faculty page is a marketing tool hiding in plain sight.

A strong faculty landing page says:
We’re professional. We’re personable. We’re proud of our people.

Here’s how to make it sing:
Keep it clean + consistent. A uniform layout makes scanning easy.
Show faces + voices. Photos and short bios with personality.
Highlight the extras. Clubs led, passions pursued, quirky classroom traditions.
Add the human touch. A favorite book, weekend hobby, or short quote goes a long way.

One school nailing this is Belmont Day School. Their design is clean, the bios are accessible, and families can instantly get a feel for the school and the people in it. (See it here)

💡 Pro Tip: Make life easier on yourself. Create a simple faculty-bio template, refresh it once a year. No more chasing bios like overdue homework.
