Dear First name / Reader,
A week in and I’m so grateful for every message, review, and late-night DM. You’re sharing screenshots of jaw-drops and I am here for it.
A few favorite reader lines:
“I kept saying one more chapter and suddenly it was 2 a.m.”
“If you love Freida McFadden, this scratches the itch in a new way.”
“The clues actually pay off. That blanket scene… chills.”
If you have not grabbed it yet, it is an easy weekend binge:

Behind the scenes
I wrote the short, sharp chapters on purpose so the momentum never lets you set the book down. I also fell down research rabbit holes on hospital discharge procedures and therapy license lookups to make the “is it a mix-up or a cover-up?” thread feel real. The desert setting is a character too: bright, beautiful, and not always kind.
A tiny, spoiler-free excerpt
The parking lot is an oven. Asphalt shimmers. I’m fumbling with the car seat when I hear it behind me—quiet, certain. “You took everything from me.” I turn. She’s closer than I thought, thinner than she should be, eyes hollow but steady. “You don’t even know what you did,” she says. Something inside me tilts. The air thins. For a second I’m sure the ground will open and swallow us both.
If you already read and enjoyed it, a quick review helps so much. One or two sentences is perfect and makes a big difference for visibility.

What you’ll get inside: a new mom who knows something is wrong, a support group that isn’t what it seems, breadcrumb clues that click, and an ending people are still talking about.
Thank you for reading and for cheering this book into the world.
With gratitude,
Kate Gable
