We are hosting four Thursday evening Seasonal Suppers between now and the end of the year. Each supper will highlight either a distinctive Italian region or city, as well as the best seasonal ingredients of autumn and winter.

Each supper includes a four-course menu 
priced at £45 per person. Wines from the featured region will also be available (excluding the Christmas Supper).
 

Brunch continues to be extremely popular, with more breakfasts being served than lunches on some days. As demand has grown, we recommend booking in advance. While we also serve coffee and pastries, these tables can fill up quickly, and brunch bookings will always take priority over walk-in coffee guests.

A small selection of dishes from the morning menu is available into lunch service on Saturdays, most often Smoked Haddock with Hash Browns or Jamón Serrano with Eggs.

Also on Saturdays, we will feature a special, it could  Eggs Benedict, served on our own house-made English muffins or French Toast.
 

We serve our morning menu from 9am to 11.45am 
Tuesday to Saturday.

We’re delighted to be bringing back our 
two-course fixed price lunch menu, available Tuesday to Friday for £25 per person.

The menu features a choice of two seasonal main courses, followed by a pudding, with dishes changing regularly to reflect the best produce of the moment. It’s a simple, relaxed way to enjoy a midweek lunch.We do recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment, though there’s no need to specify whether you’d like the fixed price menu when reserving.

Due to our fabulous weather early on in the year, the crops of wild plums, blackberries and other hedgerow & tree fruits has been incredible. At the same time, Autumn has seen rain and sun allowing the ceps in Dorset to be fairly prolific.  Alongside this, local squashes are abundant from small growers in the area, quinces from family trees and organic Angus beef from less than a mile up the road.  
 

Much of these ingredients will find there way into dishes such as Porcini & Parmesan Lasagne, Casarecce with Lyme Bay Squid, Lemon & Chilli and Quince Trifle.

Once lunch service in the restaurant finishes at 2.30pm, we continue to offer a smaller selection of antipasti from the lunch menu, along with baked goods from the counter, served with a full drinks list.

 

Our most popular afternoon sweet treats include Sea Salt & Chocolate Cookies and Almond 
and Fruit Polenta Cakes.

Food service finishes at 3.30pm; however, Mercantile remains open until 4pm for purchases.

This Christmas we have a little less space to present our fabulous wares, but we’ll be squeezing in as much as possible. Of course, everything will also be available online at Brassica Mercantile, with options for shipping or collection in Beaminster or Bridport.  Our persuasive plans for a pop-up shop next door at No. 3 The Square haven’t worked out, so instead we’ll be hosting two special evening shopping events in the restaurant. 

 

On Tuesday 2nd December and Tuesday 9th December, from 5–8pm, we’ll transform the restaurant tables into displays of seasonal stock.

With Christmas approaching—the busiest retail season of the year—we are receiving daily deliveries to bring you a beautiful selection of books, textiles, glassware, and decorations.

Photographing and uploading items to the website takes a little time, but Brassica Mercantile will be updated weekly, so do keep an eye out for new arrivals. We will attempt to display as much as we can and some items will also be available on the shelves at Brassica Forno.

Back in August we placed our Christmas orders from Italy, and we’re delighted to say they are arriving soon. This year’s selection includes traditional Sienese Ricciarelli biscuits, Panettone, and Panforte, along with an expanded range of Italian treats such as artisanal pastas, chocolate, fruits, and nuts.

Since opening Brassica Forno in 2023, we’ve been proud to work exclusively with WildFarmed™ Flour for all our baking.

The flour tastes so good because it’s made from a diverse blend of stone-milled wheat, grown regeneratively in nutrient-rich soil. The result is varying doughs with a deeper, more 
complex flavour.

 

With this in mind, we’ve spent the past year perfecting our own sourdough loaf—and we’re delighted to say it’s now at its very best and proving extremely popular. Our baking capacity is small, so availability is limited, but you’ll find this delicious sourdough, alongside our much-loved overnight-prove white tin loaf, in both Bridport and Beaminster.
 

This Christmas, Brassica Forno will be brimming with festive treats and gift ideas. While the selection is more condensed than at Brassica Mercantile in Beaminster, you’ll still find a carefully curated range of edible delights, homewares, and books.

The display will include Christmas cards, popular cookery books, chocolate, festive baskets, and decorations, making it a perfect place to pick up thoughtful gifts. Alongside this, all our boxed baked goods—from doughnuts to pastries—will be available for pre-order, ready to enjoy over the holidays or give as delicious gifts.

As the weather has started to turn, our daily hot soup takeaway is now available from midday.  Seasonal ingredients, squash is featuring heavily for a few weeks.  Soup and bread is £5.75.  There are of course other options including organic roast pork sandwiches or pizza by the slice - also possible to be warmed through on colder days…

Our extremely tasty and sumptuous Smoked Haddock and Cod Pie is back for the winter! While it’s not yet available for pre-order, we hope to offer this soon. Over the past few days, it has appeared in both Bridport and Beaminster fridges—and has been flying off the shelves.

In addition to the fish pie, we are also offering an Organic Lamb Moussaka, which will also be available for pre-order shortly. For our vegetarian customers, we have a delicious Mascarpone and Winter Vegetable Lasagne, perfect for warming winter lunches or dinners.

Town restaurant by Stevie Parle offers a positive dining experience by focusing on regenerative farming and direct partnerships with farmers, like Wildfarmed's Andy Cato (sound familiar?)  and Mike Parle's Lost Valley Dairy, ensuring 
high-quality, sustainable ingredients while providing an inviting atmosphere with its distinctive design, featuring a green lacquer kitchen, lava stone, and soft curves, aiming to foster a better relationship between diners and their food sources.  Located in Covent Garden.

Juliet is a modern European bistro in Stroud, Gloucestershire, housed in the restored Old Music Centre on London Road. It’s owned by artist-restaurateur Daniel Chadwick, and features cooking inspired by France and Italy, with a focus on seasonal, locally sourced produce. The interior is stylish and recycled-material rich, with leather banquettes, a bar window counter, and a “piano room”. Giles Coren praises its precise cooking, excellent wine list, warm hospitality, and puddings like its apple tarte tatin.

Oh to have the space and footfall of this place!  Very kindly we have been compared to this wonderful establishment, albeit on an 
extremely small scale…

Braccialieri is a stunning boutique and eco resort in Sicily's Val di Noto that beautifully blends rustic 19th-century farm estate charm with vibrant, contemporary design from Alessandro Enriquez.  Nestled among ancient olive groves, it offers a peaceful, luxurious escape featuring whimsical decor, delicious farm-to-table cuisine, and a famous checkered pool. Turner Contemporary in Margate will host a major Bridget Riley exhibition, opening November 22, 2025, exploring her career from early figurative work to recent wall paintings, focusing on sight, colour, and the natural world, with a special emphasis on drawing as a foundational part of her practice. The exhibition has been developed in close collaboration with the artist and will include iconic works from the 1960s alongside recent paintings and preparatory works on paper, showcasing the evolution of 
her practice.

"Another Chance Encounter" is an exhibition at Kettle's Yard featuring new and recent works by British artist Lubaina Himid and her collaboration with Polish artist Magda Stawarska, exploring themes of history, storytelling, and connection through a mix of paintings, installations, and interventions within the historic Kettle's Yard house.The exhibition uses chance encounters—both artistic and personal—as a framework to examine how narratives are formed, who is left out, and how new meanings emerge from connections between different places, languages, and artistic styles. 

The David Bowie Centre opens on 13 September 2025 at the V&A East Storehouse in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Free to enter with advance booking, the centre draws from Bowie’s archive of more than 90,000 items, with around 200 on display at any one time. Visitors can expect to see stage costumes, handwritten lyrics, instruments, and set designs, alongside audio-visual installations and curated displays that explore Bowie’s many creative personas and enduring influence on music, fashion, and culture.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere is a 2025 drama musical film that explores a critical chapter in Bruce Springsteen’s life — the creation of his 1982 album Nebraska. The story centres on a moment when Springsteen, caught between the expectations of fame and pressure from the industry, retreats to a bare setting to write and record music using a four-track recorder in his New Jersey home.

Jeremy Allen White portrays Springsteen, capturing not just the outward persona but the inner turmoil — battling depression, family struggles, and creative demands. The film avoids glamorising the rock star life; instead, it leans into intimate moments and the raw, often painful process of transforming personal strife into art.

I wouldn’t normally recommend a reality show as part of our culture radar, but the line-up for this one is unusually strong and wonderfully diverse. Some of the names are new to me, while others are household favourites, including Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie, Tom Daley, Clare Balding, Mark Bonnar, and Nick Mohammed (better known as Nate from Ted Lasso). The idea of these players going head-to-head as either “Faithfuls” or “Traitors” feels almost unbelievable. The series begins on 8th October.
