Kindness is one of my core values, and I've found a powerful way to practice it through this well-known quote often attributed to Brené Brown: "Clear is kind. Unclear is unkind." If we've met, you've probably heard me say this at least once! 🤓

I believe this concept has the potential to transform how we work with the people we serve. What if, instead of expecting others to read our minds, we paused to ask ourselves: What assumptions am I making right now? When someone is upset, how can we do our best to clearly communicate what's happening and why it matters?

Here's what this looks like in practice: Share what you're thinking and stay open to what others share back. When people are upset, frustrated, or feeling some kind of way with you or about the work you're doing, ask yourself: What might not be clear yet? Bring self-awareness to how you communicate. Ask yourself: Is my intention to build the relationship? Or am I trying to create distance? Understanding your intention will help you communicate with greater clarity

This idea—"Clear is kind. Unclear is unkind."—has become an anchoring principle for me. It steadies me when I feel uncomfortable or uncertain about how to respond.
