Dear First name / friend,

 

October is here, and it also marks our three-year anniversary of living here. You know I’m a summer girl, but “Locals' Summer” is pretty great too—lots of sun, low 70s - hard to beat.  After a busy few weeks, having a plan-free weekend 

has been the perfect change of pace.

 

Friday night, we went to a local film festival featuring short films by young, local filmmakers. They were quirky, clever, and laugh-out-loud funny—and the historic Jane Pickens theater had a fun, party-like vibe. 

 

Saturday, we walked to the gym and came upon Audrain Motor Week events, where car lovers from around the world bring their incredible vehicles to town for 5 days of events. Jay Leno, who lives here and is known for his car obsession, was part of the festivities…I’m still holding out hope for a Jay sighting one of these days. Fun fact, Bill's Uncle Paul taught Jay high school science in Andover, MA - and he was a character back then too! 

 

Today, we got a dose of history and culture by going on the Black History Walking Tour with friends, followed by Bloody Marys at Bowen’s Wharf. The tour was fascinating—it took us down streets we’d never explored and we learned parts of Newport’s history that we didn't know. It was fun to play tourist in our own hometown on a beautiful Sunday.

 1. The Fall Style System has Started - now is a great time to jump in! 

We kicked off this season’s Fall Style System, and members are creating fantastic, easy and modern outfits using the daily prompts...every day. What I love most is how many of those burning “what do I wear with this?” questions get answered along the way.

These are the real-life styling details that make or break an outfit — and exactly what we tackle together inside the program.

 

This week, I also asked members what’s missing from their fall wardrobes and got fantastic responses. From the best white tees to going-out tops to a perfect dress for a school event –  and many more,  I helped hunt down pieces that make sense for their lives (and budgets), not just what the internet is yelling about.

3. This Week's Random Find - a SHOW! 

Bill and I just binged an entire series in a week (don't judge) and were completely hooked. The Girlfriend (Amazon Prime) came recommended by our middle son, who watched it with his girlfriend the week before we met up in Chicago (which is… ironic, if you’ve seen the show).

 

Not exactly highbrow drama, but very entertaining. Robin Wright plays “The Mother” brilliantly. Side note: I actually asked Alexa how old she is because I was curious…turns out, she’s exactly my age. I like to think I’m a little nicer — and definitely less…well…you’ll have to watch and decide for yourself.
