12 Months of Delivering for FNQ
This week marks 12 months of the Crisafulli Government delivering for Queensland.
To celebrate, I hit the road across Far North Queensland delivering donuts to our amazing local schools, police, councils, and community groups to say thank you for all their support followed by an incredible Donut Drive Thru and a Mobile Office.
World Trail and Contour Works to Design Smithfield Mountain Bike Trails
It's the news I have been waiting to deliver! Local trail designing legends, World Trail and Contour Works have been awarded the tender to design the Smithfield Mountain Bike Park upgrade. I couldn't be happier about this announcement and the benefits it will bring to our local industries.
Partner Shout Out
Congratulations to the Marlin Coast Rangerson an amazing season of football. The FQPL Premier Men's team have taken home the Premiership, Crad Evans and Champions League for South East Queensland, becoming the first-ever regional winners! It’s also the first time in history that a regional club has defeated an FQ Premier League 1 champion Team. What an incredible achievement!
They have also been crowned the Best Regional Team in Queensland. History Made.
Liquor Accord Expands to Beaches
This week marks a big step forward in keeping our Cairns communities safe, with the launch of the Suburban Cairns Liquor Accord.
This is a partnership delivering safer, more consistent alcohol restrictions right across the region. From now on, low-priced cask wine will not be sold before 4:00 PM daily across participating bottle shops and venues.
I want to sincerely thank the Hon Deb Frecklington MP, Attorney General the Queensland Police Service, Terry James MP, Mayor Amy Eden, Deputy Mayor Brett Olds, and Councillors, in particular, Cr Matthew Tickner for their leadership and continued support in driving positive change across Cairns.
My Week in Parliament
Last sitting week, I spoke on an issue that is close to my heart and vital to the cultural, social and economic life of our region—thefuture of live music in Far North Queensland.
I have been working with venue owners, musicians and the broader community to fight for change. A petitioncalling for fairer rules for live music in Far North Queensland has gathered more than 600 signatures and growing support. I have met with the Attorney-General, the Minister for Tourism, the Minister for Housing, and the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation to push for reforms.
This sitting week I spoke on and we passed Daniels Law which establishes a publicly accessible child sex offender register in Queensland. For more than a decade, the Morcombe family tirelessly called for action on a public register. While previous governments failed to act, we made it a priority in our very first year. This legislation is about transparency, accountability, and most importantly, protection. It gives parents and communities the right to know when those who have committed the most serious crimes against children are living nearby.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to my office if you require anything - my team are available 9am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday and are more than happy to help.
