Clinton, B.C. — Llenllenéy’ten (High Bar) First Nation (HBFN) Stewardship & Lands Department and the Province of British Columbia’s Ministry of Mining & Critical Minerals (MCM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that formalizes a collaborative framework for reviewing mining activity within HBFN territory and advancing shared decision-making.

On September 10, 2025, HBFN Kúkpi7 & Council met with senior MCM leadership to execute the MOU, creating a dedicated joint working group to coordinate consultation on mining applications, strengthen environmental stewardship, and support responsible economic development.

“This agreement represents a significant step forward in ensuring that mining within HBFN territory is carried out in a way that respects our lands, resources, and community priorities,” said Kúkpi7 Jamie Fletcher. “Through this MOU, we are building a relationship that acknowledges our stewardship responsibilities while fostering sustainable economic opportunities.”

MCM emphasized the importance of partnership in responsible resource management. “By working together in a structured and transparent way, this MOU sets out a roadmap for collaboration and trust-building,” said Stewart Dickson, Executive Director, MCM. “We are proud to join HBFN in forging new pathways for mining governance.”

The MOU lays the foundation for long-term cooperation, reinforcing shared commitments to environmental protection, community well-being, and responsible resource development. Through the working group, HBFN and MCM will pursue governance solutions that align economic development with sustainability and Secwepemc cultural values.
