Artsy Project Update - October 2025

New here? I’m Carmen McCullough, a curious creator and proven promoter of artsy projects that take us off the beaten path. This is my monthly update where I share about
my artsy projects hoping you'll be inspired to do the same.
Thank you for following along!

Thank You!

A BIG thank you to those who attended the Opening Reception for my Wicked Plant Art Exhibit. Your comments and questions allowed me to talk endlessly about the artwork. So thank you for asking…and for listening! (You can learn more about the collection here and about the 2025 exhibit on the Project 412 website here.)

Since many of you live far away and may not be able to see it in person, I'll post photos of the exhibits (in three locations throughout Detroit Lakes, Minnesota) in November.

Thanks again to Project 412, Becker County Museum, and Bluebird Books for partnering with me on this exhibit! 🌿

The Pumpkin Heads are Back!

It’s October, and that means the Pumpkin Heads are back! These two mixed media assemblage characters have been with me for several years now. The taller one was fashioned from a broken groom wedding cake topper, and the shorter from an abandoned doll body. Their heads, rescued from discarded Jack O' Lantern Pez dispensers, bring a nice Halloween vibe to the pumpkin patch. 🎃 🎃

Inspiration Everywhere

For a hauntingly modern take on a Rube Goldberg invention, check out this opening title sequence of Bad Sisters (a dark comedy / thriller). I can't help but wonder how many takes it took to get this all on video! 📽

This bookstore offers rare and vintage editions from authors like Bram Stoker and Edgar Allan Poe. They have a 1845 second edition of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus” for $4,995 USD. It’s out of my price range, but someone will be very pleased to own this incredible find. 📚

If you’re intrigued by quirky public art and the stories behind it, check out Who Put the Phones on the Wall?” This eclectic collection of telephones in St. Louis Park, MN is a delightful glimpse into creativity in unexpected places. (I love that the Fisher Price classic chatter phone also makes an appearance!). ☎

Artsy project Update

What’s Next in the Studio? When I’m not working, I’m usually diving into an artsy project.
This year brought three larger ones to life: The Altered Altar, Mini Tarot Deck, and my 2025 Wicked Plant Art exhibition. My Suitcase of Memories also found a new audience which was pleasant surprise.

And now I'm in an incubation phase – gathering inspiration, exploring ideas, and researching random themes found off the beaten path. If you have suggestions for topics, products, or media you’d like to see me explore, I’d love to hear them! You can reach me at Carmen@StrangeFarmGirl.com.

Are you working on a fun project (artsy or otherwise)?
I'd love to hear about it and include it in a future update.

Got a question for me?
I will reply back or answer it in a future update.
