Dear First name / Reader,
I’m over the moon to share that our baby boy, River James, arrived on October 5 at 8:15 a.m. He weighed 8 lbs 10 oz and measured 20 inches. We met him via C-section and everything went smoothly.
Â
On day two, I had significant bleeding and needed a blood transfusion in my room through an IV. I was feeling totally fine but my hemoglobin was low so I'm glad they did it.  We stayed three nights in the hospital and came home last Wednesday (on my 42nd birthday!). Since then I’ve been feeling better and better. The swelling in my feet is down, and we’ve even started taking short stroller walks around the neighborhood.
Â
Our 7-year-old is absolutely in love with him. We all are. So far, River is sleeping in three-hour stretches and settling back down after quickly. My husband is doing most of the nights and we’ve found a rhythm that works for now. I know babies love to change the script, but we’ll take the wins.
Â
A little side note that made me smile: I hope you’re enjoying THE OTHER MOTHER. It was inspired by pregnancy, and yes, we definitely brought home the right baby. The birth area of the hospital was on total lockdown. We took one slow lap around the floor and when I got a bit too close to the exit, alarms went off.Â
Â
Thank you for all the love you’ve sent our way. I’m reading your messages during those quiet feeds and feeling very grateful.
Â
With love,
Kate
