These clients had been struggling to keep the grass green by watering, fertilizing and mowing, doing everything right, and to no avail. Reaching a breaking point, they called and said they needed to try something else. The client wanted to walk through the property, to experience it from the kitchen window, the back porch, as they loaded in and out of the car each and every day. What she was saying was she wanted to be a part of her environment, to support it, to witness it develop and grow, and yes, to be delighted by pretty things. So with our plan in hand, she sheet mulched over all of the grass, building soil as she went. We laid the design for pavers for a natural, meandering path, and planted perennials, trees, and bulbs.
Over the seasons, she continues to add compost, bark mulch and plants to encourage soil development that will support a multi season sensory garden. And today, she saw a butterfly. In a property where one year ago there were no worms in the soil, and we could only dig down an inch or two before hitting concrete. In this property - her home - she is creating a gorgeous ecosystem, for not just her, but for the world around her.

Nature will support you when you support it.

And here are a few before and afters from recent projects, after a photo of this butterfly doing its thing.
