I’ve been writing about key habits for a while now—simple, grounding things like eating breakfast, putting your phone in another room when studying, taking a walk, or trying meditation.
Â
But here’s something new to try: do nothing.
Â
That’s right—nothing.
Â
For 5 minutes. Maybe 10. Even 15.
Â
Just sit and let your brain relax without a constant stream of stimulation, distraction, and overconsumption. Let yourself relax and just be with: yourself.Â
Â
I've been trying it and it's hard. It goes against our human conditioning to always be doing, always be consuming, always looking for the next thing to distract ourselves with and give away our attention.
Â
How often are you giving your attention away for free?
Â
Right now, in the middle of a busy semester with a hundred undone things spinning in your head, a few minutes of stillness might be exactly what your tired brain needs.
Â
Try it—and see what happens.
Â
And if you want to explore this practice (and others like it) together, come join our online wellness community for TRIO students. It’s a safe, supportive space where we share the ongoing, messy, fascinating process of taking care of ourselves.
Â
Try logging in and leaving a comment or sending me a message. I always respond!Â
Â
Let me know what you discover when you sit down and do nothing.
