What I Experienced at the YWCA in 1975 Still Gives Me Chills
In 1975, I had just begun my journey into psychic work. Back then, the only computer I had was the one between my ears—and as a nurse, all our records were written by hand. I'm grateful for that, because it meant I documented everything… including this.
One day, I received a call from a woman named Phyllis, the director of a local YWCA. She sounded both embarrassed and desperate.
“This may sound strange,” she said, “but the building has been shut down. No one will work on the first floor because of what’s happening on the second. Doors open and close. Footsteps echo when no one is up there. Everyone's too frightened to stay.”
As someone just stepping into this work, I had never investigated a haunting. I wasn’t even sure I believed in ghosts. But I believed in showing up with an open heart—and that’s what I did.
When I entered the building, everything felt still… until I reached the last room on the right at the end of the hall. It was there that I saw—whether with my eyes or my mind, I still question—a girl, maybe 17 years old, huddled in a corner, crying silently.
She didn’t speak aloud, but I heard her message clearly:
She had taken her own life after a horrific trauma. She couldn't live with the pain.
Not knowing what else to do, I asked for help from the other side. In that moment, a vision appeared: a beautiful woman walking through a field of wildflowers, offering compassion without words. She gently approached the girl, helped her to her feet, and together they walked into the light.
Later, I met this woman in meditation.
She told me her name was Inés. She wore the clothing of a nun. She said she had been beatified in 1888. I didn’t even know what that meant at the time. But when I went to the library and looked it up, I found her: Inés de Benigánim, a mystic from Spain known for her visions and prophecies.
A few days later, Phyllis called again.
The building had reopened. The fear was gone. And with it, so was the energy of sorrow that once lingered there.
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, this experience taught me something powerful: healing can happen across time, space, and even lifetimes.
