Let's Talk Retinoids!
Retinoids... they are so hot right now! But what do they even do? Why are they an absolutely integral part of most skincare routines? What if your skin is sensitive? Read on for the full scoop on one of the best anti-aging ingredients out there.

Retinoids work by binding to retinoid receptors in the skin, which results in changes to the skin's behavior - for example, greater production of collagen and elastin (hello! give me that!) The reason this happens is that retinoids regulate skin cell turnover. Think back to when you were a kid; if you skinned your knee in the morning, it was practically healed by dinner! In adulthood, this healing process takes longer because our skin cells are more sluggish. Retinoids don't stand for this and get things back up to speed, resulting in increased collagen production, improved turnover of sun-damaged cells, and clearer pores. Do you have a friend with smooth, glowing skin? Odds are they are using a retinoid product!

Maybe you've tried using a retinoid before and found it to be drying to your skin? Thankfully, there are many different formulations, from prescription retinoids to OTC retinols. Many people end up using a medical-grade formulation, which uses incredible science to make that retinoid molecule more tolerable. We'll link a few of these below.

That retinoid that you're about to be using regularly - it's also helping to minimize the appearance of your pores! By keeping pores clear of all of the gunk that clogs them up, while also stimulating collagen, retinoids can help to reduce pore size with consistent use.

Retinoid Round Up!

Need help finding the best retinoid for you? Here are a few non-prescription versions that we love!

Click on the bolded links below to check them out!

We love this product for its awesome efficacy, combined with incredible tolerability. It uses a time-released retinol in combination with bakuchiol. Bakuchiol is a retinol potentiator - meaning, it makes the retinol work better. You can get away with using a retinol (as opposed to a prescription retinoid) and have less irritation, but still get fantastic results.
This bad boy used to be available only by prescription. It's a great option for someone who is ready for a prescription retinoid, but can't get into the office to discuss options with us. Or we might tell you this is the right option for you anyhow! Remember to moisturize with it, as it can produce a little more dryness than the other products listed here.
Ready to dip your toes, but not sure about using a stronger product? Cerave continues to put out some of the best OTC options out there.
