Welcome back to Beyond the Tour where twice a month you'll receive practical tips and resources to help you get better at what you do.

Let's get started.

If You Do One Thing This Week:
1.💡Have a presence. But don't attend every event.

You don't have to go to every event.
You don't have to table every weekend.
But you do want your school to have a presence.

Here's a tip: Make a list of the events where you want your school to show up. Ask your parents if any of them are planning to attend. Capitalize on that! They'll do a great job representing the school with a different voice. Ask them to wear your school apparel as a walking advertisement. Without any extra time or energy from you, your school will be showcased.

Bonus points:  Gift them apparel to wear. They'll be thrilled, and you can move out some more merch.

I love a good win-win.

2 Tips to DO MORE:

2. 📋 Plan for Conferences.

If you have parent-teacher conferences coming up, check in with teachers and remind them about the role they plan in retention.  (Heck, excite them about their role! They are the life of the school!)

Make sure they know something about future grades or the next division to excite parents and kids about what's next. This is how we plant the seeds for a look-ahead culture.

Small conversations make a big difference. Just get started.

3. 👏🏼 Teamwork makes the dream work.

When Admission and Marketing departments meet (and I hope you're meeting regularly*), keep it focused, keep it concrete. A standard agenda item should be: "What are we hearing from families? What are they looking for?"

Figure out how you can showcase that element in the marketing messaging and images out there.

*If you know me, you know I love a productive meeting. Admission + Marketing should have regular, structured conversations to keep the messaging engine going. I like a cadence of every 2 or 3 weeks. Not more frequently than every 2 weeks - let us get the work done!  And longer than 3 weeks is an eternity.

Get the meeting on your calendar, even if it's a 15 minute meeting.

Regular communication makes all the difference.
