In honor of Halloween week, here's the story of the time my husband Nick and I encountered a ghost, First name / friend.
Let me preface: I didn't fully believed in ghosts until this day.
Nick was visiting me one weekend in college when we decided to take a nice stroll on the trail that goes around the local lake.
When you enter the trail, you have to go through one of two small tunnels. As we were about to enter, we didn't see anyone in either tunnel.
In fact, no one was around us at all.
When we exited our tunnel, we heard footsteps. Someone exited the other tunnel at the exact same time as us—and they weren't in there before, nor were they behind us. 😳
Not only that, but this middle-aged man was wearing a full suit and carrying a briefcase. Considering our location in the middle of the woods, in the middle of a trail, this is not a place you'd be passing through on your morning commute.
Honestly, he didn't look like he was from our decade. 😅
Weird, but okay. Nick and I exchanged a “where did he come from?!" glance before turning around again, and this man vanished.
There was nowhere to go on this narrow path other than directly into the woods, where we absolutely would have heard leaves and branches crackling.
Immediately, Nick and I knew—we had just seen a ghost.
While this was absolutely freaky in the moment, sharing this experience reminds me of swapping spooky stories around a campfire with friends as a kid.

👻 Trick-or-treating myself, even when I was “too old” to do so.
