Need help keeping up with heating costs this fall and winter? Energy Assistance applications are now being accepted through the Virginia Department of Social Services.
Energy Assistance helps qualifying households cover heating costs and prevent service interruptions, so you can stay safe and warm this winter.
Simple Ways to Lower Your Bills Before Winter
Winter bills can spike, but small changes add up. Try quick energy hacks like lowering your thermostat a few degrees, sealing drafty windows and doors, switching to LED bulbs, using smart power strips, and lowering your water-heater temperature. Check whether you qualify for help programs such as LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) or the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) for internet help. Applying can reduce monthly costs. Plan ahead by estimating your winter heating (look at last year’s bills) and setting aside a small weekly amount so the season isn’t a surprise.
