With November comes signs that winter is on the way. Cecropia moth caterpillars are spinning cocoons to stay safe through the cold months and chipmunks are heading underground for a long rest, while Wood Ducks, Juncos, and White-throated Sparrows make their seasonal moves. Tufted Titmice and Chickadees are busy hiding seeds for later, and Harbor Seals and Striped Bass are arriving along the Connecticut coast. Winterberry holly is showing off its bright red berries, red squirrels are growing their tufted ears, and white-tailed deer are switching to a winter diet of buds and twigs. Look for the Hunter’s Moon (a supermoon!) on the 5th and the Leonid Meteor Shower on the evening of the 17th for a little night-sky excitement.
