Dear Friends, As November settles in, there’s a calm over the garden. The dahlias are tucked away, the roses are settling into dormancy (see post here on preparing roses for winter) and yet, I’m still out there with my trowel! The ground hasn’t frozen here in Connecticut, which means there’s still time to plant those last bulbs. And the best part? Many garden centers have them deeply discounted this time of year. Have you finished planting your bulbs? If you’ve been waiting to add more alliums, tulips, or daffodils, now’s your moment you will be happy you did come Spring. |

Speaking of bulbs, do you plant Amaryllis or paperwhite bulbs indoors? If you do or want to start now is the time to start forcing paperwhites and amaryllis, those fragrant white blossoms that bring a little Christmas magic to your windowsill. You can read more about how I plant and care for them here on the blog and you can even order a set for a beautiful gift for your friend from Jackson and Perkins. Use code OLDCASTLE15 for 15% off. |

This month also marks a very special moment for me, I’ve officially completed the Master Gardener program! It’s been a rewarding journey of study, soil, and service, and I’ve learned so much about plant health, integrated pest management, native species, and the importance of giving back to the gardening community and met so many friends. More than anything, it’s reminded me that gardening is a lifelong classroom and each of you, with your stories, gardens, and shared curiosity, make this space such a joy to nurture. I can’t wait to pass along what I’ve learned in upcoming blog posts and projects and I look forward to taking more advanced Master Gardener classes |

Finally, as we gather around our Thanksgiving tables, I just want to say how truly thankful I am for you for your kind messages, your shared love of the garden, and your continued support of Old Castle Cottage. Whether you’ve been here since the very beginning or just joined our little community, you’ve become part of the story blooming here each season. May your home be warm, your table full, and your heart grateful for all the simple joys this season brings. |
