Are you feeling as though there is more darkness in the world today than light? I was feeling this way earlier today until a friend reminded me that not everyone has turned to the dark. The problem is we are consumed by the darkness and we can feel like we can't escape it.

But I remind myself everything is as it needs to be in order for humans to evolve. People are tired, they are tired of fighting and the negativity. People are fearful and angry. But we can not give into those emotions. We must remember we ALL have light inside of us it is just that some people's lights have been extinguished or dimmed and it is up to us to relight their light with kindness and hope.

We need to remember that we are still in the age of Ascension and this stage of Ascension is referred to as “Dark Night of the Soul." And it can be exhausting and scary. The good news is this dark period will not last forever, but it is necessary.

Why is dark night of the soul necessary? You have to embrace the darkness to find the Light. You have to die to self (ego) so you can truly live authentically and how you were meant to live on this earth. You have to experience great loss so you can gain everything. You have to lose your way so that you can begin to walk your true path. You must abandon yourself to find yourself. Sounds a bit much doesn't it? But it's true - we need to let go of our programmings so we can step into our true nature. So, how do we survive these dark times? Below are some suggestions.

To survive the darkness of the soul period of Ascension focus on self-compassion, surrender to the process, and maintain a connection to healthy coping mechanisms like self-care, movement, and supportive relationships. Remember that this period is often a natural and transformative stage of spiritual growth, so patience, mindfulness, and a willingness to face feelings and beliefs can help you navigate through it to a new understanding of self.

Self-compassion and acceptance
  • Be kind and loving to yourself: Acknowledge that this is a difficult and often painful process.
  • Surrender and trust the process: Stop fighting what is happening and have faith that the experience has a purpose, even if it's not clear to you right now.
  • Give yourself permission to be where you are: Allow yourself to feel your feelings without judgment and release the need for control.
  • Embrace your feelings: Instead of suppressing emotions, allow yourself to experience them fully through practices like yelling, crying, or breathing exercises.
Practical coping mechanisms
  • Prioritize physical well-being: Ensure you are eating well, getting enough sleep, and staying hydrated.
  • Incorporate movement: Gentle exercise like walking, yoga, or even dancing can help.
  • Stay present through mindfulness: Practice mindfulness, meditation, or deep breathing exercises to observe your thoughts without getting carried away by them.
  • Express yourself creatively: Journaling, writing, or other creative outlets can provide a way to process your experience.
Connection and support
  • Stay connected to loved ones: Maintain contact with people who love and support you, even if you don't feel like socializing.
  • Find community: Consider joining a supportive community to help you through the experience.
  • Seek professional help: Don't hesitate to speak with a therapist or mental health professional for guidance.
  • Connect with nature: Spending time in nature can be a soothing and grounding experience.
Reframing your perspective
  • Focus on the positive: Consciously look for things to be grateful for, even small ones, to shift your perspective.
  • Educate yourself: Learn about the "dark night of the soul" to understand that it is a common and often necessary part of spiritual growth.
  • Focus on what you can control: Direct your energy toward what is within your control to feel a greater sense of agency.
And I will add one other tool - be proactive and not reactive. Stop reacting to life around you and become proactive. Defuse toxic situations by simply walking away or if you must engage then do it with kindness for the person engaging you is probably just as scared and stressed as you are. When I am confronted I always remain calm, I never raise my voice or get physical. I quietly listen and if appropriate share my perspective without attacking the other person.

I think of it as planting seeds of Ascension. Small acts of kindness do grow, it is just quiet and subtle so it can be hard to recognize. But I know a little secret - darkness can not survive the light. So focus on being kind and doing kind acts and we will survive the age of “Dark Night of the Soul.”
