KEEP SCROLLING THERE IS MORE!
Pour a cup - this one’s meaty. Mom clocked it at 40 minutes and loved every minute.
It's me! Sandra Moreno
I’m feeling so much better this year. Recovering from lung surgery in 2023 and burnout took time, but nine weeks off scattered throughout the year helped me recharge. I even think I’ve perfected my sourdough bread!
I’ve been enjoying downtime with my husband, from fantasy video games to celebrating our 26th anniversary at the incredible Aquerello restaurant. Four hours and one tasting menu later, we were perfectly stuffed.
At home, we’ve been tackling projects in our main house with more planned for 2026. Our tiny house is done for now, though the pups still need a ramp, and the deck could use some railing.
I’m also exploring ways to grow as a stylist. Becoming a certified trichologist is a little scary, but I’m excited to see where it could lead in 2026.
Here’s to a year full of hair, good health, happiness, and a few more adventures along the way!
Each year, we take time to review our pricing to ensure it aligns with rising costs of living, product updates, and our commitment to providing sustainable, high-quality service to both our guests and our team.
Our prices are thoughtfully calculated using the Summit Salon model, balancing fair wages for our stylists with continued access to advanced education and the highest-quality products. This model helps us ensure that every team member is paid fairly for their time, skill, and growth, while keeping pricing transparent and consistent for our guests.
Our stylists are employees, not renters, which means they receive hourly pay, bonuses based on service performance, and benefits such as paid sick time and optional retirement savings accounts. As we grow, we continue working toward offering expanded benefits like paid holidays and vacation time. Your continued support helps make this possible.
To help us reach our goal of 10 fully booked, full-time stylists - which keeps pricing fair while expanding benefits - you can make a big impact in simple ways: pre-book your next two visits, refer a friend or family member, consider seeing one of our newer stylists for a cut or color, and snag a weekday or off-peak slot when you can. Adding a treatment or gloss and purchasing your home-care with us directly supports fair wages, education, and benefits. If plans change, early cancellations help us offer your spot to someone on the waitlist. And if you loved your visit, a quick Google or Yelp review or a share on Instagram @dbs_salon helps others find us. Your support moves us closer to offering paid holidays, health benefits and vacation time while keeping our pricing thoughtful and transparent.
We deeply appreciate your trust and loyalty as we continue building a salon that reflects both artistry and integrity. Thank you for being part of our community and for helping us support a fair, sustainable future for our team and our industry.
A Little Note From Each of Us
Down the Rabbit Hole of 2025
We Refueled, Recharged and Connected at the Innersense Founders Summit 2025
Edellyn - Level 6 Stylist & Director of Education I’m proud of the growth I’ve experienced this year as both a stylist and an educator. I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Innersense Founders Summit and learn more about their products and upcoming education. I’m excited for the new year ahead. My goal for 2026 is to continue pursuing outside education so I can bring fresh techniques and ideas to my clients. I’m also looking forward to spending quality time with my family and watching my son grow.
"Don't forget! You might need more product than you think to achieve the style you want!
Mehr - Level 5 Stylist This year went by so fast. I haven’t been in touch with many friends or my salon family, but I promise I’ll be back soon -I really do miss everyone.
I’ve spent this year navigating life with three little ones who are still tiny and need me. They’re growing up so quickly, and I’m so proud of them all. Aliya is 7, Noura is 5, and little Hadi Bear is already 18 months old. Being a stay-at-home mom can be challenging, but I’m grateful to be able to do it. I know the time will come soon when they’re all in school and more independent.
I’m also doing my best to live in the present and appreciate all the blessings around me - especially family, nature, and good health. Next year, I hope to gradually step back into salon life, hopefully by mid-2026, spending more time learning, improving my skills, and doing more hair. :)
“Use deep contitioning treatments during the winter and when you need to push your appointments out a bit further. Protect your ends! ”
This little guy turned 1 this year! He was spoiled at our yearly Salon Getaway in Pajaro Junes. AKA Pajama Dunes.
Sophia - Senior Level 4 Stylist I started the year returning from maternity leave, unsure how I would feel leaving my baby. I’m proud of myself for adapting and balancing motherhood with work. In the coming year, I want to reach my goals and take the next step in my career, including working with an associate to provide my guests with an even more luxurious experience. Outside of work and motherhood, I’d like to find a hobby I enjoy. Sewing is one idea, so I can make gifts and cute clothes for my son.
“The best curls are captured while your hair is still wet! Apply your products BEFORE you towel dry!”
Nelly - Level 4 Stylist This year marks six years at DBS Salon, and the experience and knowledge I’ve gained are incredible. I’m most thankful to all of you who support me and trust me with your hair. Haircuts and color have been my favorite work, and big transformations have been especially rewarding lately. I’ve also had fun dancing salsa and bachata. I’m excited for 2026 and to offer new services, including bridal hair and makeup.
“When styling for volume, after you apply your products, scrunch as much moisture out as possible with your microfiber towel, get all the way to your scalp!”
We spent time volunteering at local cosmetology schools, supporting the next generation of stylists.
Rian - Senior Level 3 Stylist This year has been wonderfully busy! I’ve spent countless hours expanding my portfolio of creative color on natural curls and I’m excited to keep experimenting and imagining unique looks for my adventurous clients. I’d also love to explore more alternative haircuts, as naturally curly hair is still underrepresented in the alt-scene. I enjoy finding ways to reflect my clients’ style and personality through the shape of their hair.
I’m also dreaming big for the future. Over the past few years, I’ve fallen in love with NYC during multiple visits. While I’ll never leave the Bay Area for good, my goal is to create a mini-dbs in NYC, spending about half of the year working on creative hair projects. There is still growth and planning to do before this becomes reality, so you won’t be getting rid of me anytime soon, but I’m excited to work toward this goal while continuing to do my best work here in Sunnyvale 🙂
“Clarifying every so often, along with a deep conditioning treatment depending on how often you wash your hair can really help if you feel your products ‘stop working’"
Vanessa - Level 3 Stylist This year I’ve focused on improving my techniques by learning from other stylists online, which has made my haircuts faster and more efficient. In 2026, I look forward to expanding my services to include brow lamination and tinting—something I’ve wanted to do for a while. I’m proud to celebrate six years at the salon and feel happy with where I am. I look forward to many more years to come.
“Don't be afraid to try new techniques! There is no ”wrong way" each will just give you a different look."
Letting go is a gift you give yourself. - Here's to riding the waves of 2025
Jennifer - Level 2 Stylist This year was full of exciting milestones! I recently married the most wonderful man after eight years together. We also purchased a 1948 Packard that we plan to restore slowly and bought our first home together, which we’re excited to make our own. I’m proud of reaching Level 2 Stylist this year, and next year I hope to achieve Level 3 while expanding my barbering skills. I also want to grow my hobbies - crocheting, learning to knit, and improving my gardening skills.
“Refresh 2nd day curls with enough water. Its more than you think you need.”
Vina - Level 1 Stylist At the start of 2025, I was figuring out which services I wanted to focus on in the salon. I’m passionate about special occasion hair and makeup, hair color, haircuts, and waxing. This year, I became more comfortable styling textured hair, working faster with color, and cutting curly hair. I also began taking a few clients on my own. In 2026, I’m excited to continue growing my skills, expanding my services, and building my clientele.
"Using a silk bonnet at night can help reduce 2nd day frizz and breakage while retaining the style from the day before."
Alana - Senior Associate Stylist The themes of this year have been growth, change, and perspective. At the start of 2025, life looked so different. I was at a different job, living at home, in a relationship, and overall very fearful about taking certain leaps in life. A few months into the year, my world flipped upside down, and before I knew it, everything had changed.
I’m approaching a year at DBS and have learned more than I ever could have imagined. I moved out. I’m single (and in therapy). While some of the transitions have been difficult, they’ve allowed me to dive deeper and unlock parts of myself I might never have known had I stayed complacent. Learning and accepting that the only constant in life is change has made me more grateful for every moment -good and bad.
Jenna - Associate Stylist I graduated from the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology in July 2025 and soon became Sandra’s junior associate. I wanted to work at DBS Salon to continue learning about curly and textured hair. Teaching clients the wash and style process has deepened my understanding of textured hair. I’m also excited to bring braiding and protective styling services to DBS.
Outside the salon, I work at a bridal boutique in Union Square, which has taught me about styling and modern fashion. I love exploring trends with different brides. I’m also excited to learn more from Sandra about updos and makeup, which will expand my bridal opportunities. This past year, I focused heavily on work, but in 2026 I want to make more time for friends, exercise, and relaxation.
Welcome to the DBS Salon Team!
This year we are joined by Alana and Jenna!
Dina - Remote Reservationist This year has been incredible! I became a grandma for the second time, which is beyond exciting. I also helped my oldest move into their new home, just five houses away, making it wonderful to have my grandbabies close. I hope my mom will move nearby soon as well. In 2026, I plan to slow down, take some vacations with my husband, and remodel our kitchen. I love baking and making baby quilts, and I’m excited to create a new quilt for a friend who is expecting a baby boy in March. My husband has also been smoking brisket, and he’s fantastic at it!
Beetle - Remote Reservationist This year has been very exciting for me in my glassblowing journey! I attended Pilchuck Glass School this summer on scholarship, which really pushed my technical knowledge in the right direction. I was also accepted into my first museum showing this October and plan to continue applying to galleries and museums. Next up is submitting to New Glass Review magazine while continuing my undergraduate studies at CSU Chico.
Juan Jr. - Product Manager This year was full of challenges. I went back to school after a year off, switched jobs, and adjusted to new schedules. I also had to navigate more drama than I ever expected. Luckily, I’ve been able to leave the past behind and feel like I’m growing again as a person. Taking guitar classes has inspired me to explore music creation, and combined with my interests in photography and fashion, I feel fully focused on self-expression and discovering my identity right now.
Phillip - Director of Happiness
This year has been a journey of self-reflection, healing, and focusing on my health. Heading into 2025, life’s pressures felt heavy. As the head of a household with six family members, life can get chaotic. With both of my parents facing life-threatening illnesses, I’ve learned to appreciate life in a simpler, purer way. Countering stress through prayer, prioritizing time for myself, clean eating, and working out has been my saving grace. I’m looking forward to more blessings and victories in the new year.
Looking ahead at Education for 2026
Education is at the heart of what we do at dbs Salon. Continuing to learn and refine our craft allows us to deliver the best possible results for our guests while helping our team grow in confidence, creativity, and skill.
In 2026, we’re excited to continue our strong commitment to education. Along with attending the Redken Symposium in Las Vegas this June, our team will participate in mandatory education every 4th Monday from January through October.
We’ll be kicking off the year with an in-salon Redken class featuring the Halo Contouring technique using Redken Shades EQ Gloss, taught by a visiting Redken educator. Later in the year, Innersense Organic Beauty will join us to host an advanced formulating class focused on their Color Purity line - helping our stylists perfect their skills with clean, sustainable color.
Throughout the year, our education program will also include advanced training in curly cutting, straight-hair cutting, barbering, and protective styling. We believe that every stylist should feel confident working with every texture, length, and style, and we’re proud to invest in the training that makes that possible.
Our commitment to learning never stops, and we can’t wait to bring this new knowledge and creativity back to the salon chair for you.
A peek inside our potion cabinet.
Product Highlights & Sustainability for 2026
We’re so excited to share some of the beautiful new products and updates that have become part of our salon this year.
Innersense Organic Beauty
We’ve now been using Innersense Color Purity for a full year with amazing results. This clean, professional color system is free of ammonia, PPD, PTD, resorcinol, and synthetic fragrance. It delivers rich, long-lasting color, full gray coverage, and brilliant shine while keeping your hair and scalp healthy. You will have a completely scent free experience with this color.
The new Repair Hair Mask is a must-try. This clean bonding mask penetrates the hair cortex to repair and strengthen hair naturally. It has been shown to reduce hair damage by 7x and strengthen hair by 2x after one use. Apply it once a week after cleansing, leave it in for 5–10 minutes, and rinse thoroughly for smoother, stronger, and healthier hair.
We’re also excited about the arrival of the Hair Renew line. This collection focuses on scalp health and helps create the ideal environment for healthy hair growth. The Hair Renew Scalp Hairbath and Daily Active Serum soothe irritation, reduce flaking, and support stronger, more balanced hair from root to end.
We continue to expand our refill program with Innersense favorites such as Sweet Spirit Leave-In Conditioner and I Create Curl Memory now in Liter Refill bags. We also carry liter refill bags of select stylers, shampoos, and conditioners for at-home use.
When it comes to refilling your bottles in the salon, we are currently limited to the Innersense shampoos and conditioners that are available to us in gallon sizes. We love to refill your Color Awakening Hairbath and Conditioner, Hydrating Hairbath and Conditioner as well as Pure Inspiration Hairbath and Conditioner. At this time, we are not able to refill Clarity, Hair Renew, or Bright Balance products but some are available to purchase in Liter size bottles or refill bags. Thank you for understanding as we continue to grow our refill options while working within the availability provided by Innersense.
If you’d like to stop by for a refill outside of your regular appointment, please text us first so we can be sure someone is available to assist you right away.
Bouclème
We’ve been proudly offering Bouclème for about six months, and it’s quickly become a guest favorite. For anyone who loved the discontinued Fragrance Free No-Poo Cleanser and Conditioner by DevaCurl, Bouclème’s Fragrance Free Cleanser and Conditioner are the perfect replacements. They gently cleanse and hydrate without buildup, keeping curls soft, defined, and balanced.
Our go-to product from the line is the Super Hold Styler, which delivers beautiful curl definition and shine with flexible hold. It’s our favorite replacement for DevaCurl’s Supreme Defining Gel and has become a must-have for long-lasting, frizz-free curls.
Bouclème also offers several other amazing stylers to fit every curl type and need. The Volumizing Foam gives lightweight lift and body, perfect for finer curls or waves. The Seal + Shield Curl Cream adds smoothness and definition, while the Glycerin Free Seal + Shield Gel locks in style and humidity protection without any crunch.
Whether you need extra volume, touchable hold, or a fragrance-free option, Bouclème has something for everyone.
DevaCurl
We want to assure everyone that DevaCurl is here to stay. It continues to be an important part of our curl-care offerings, and we still love and trust so many of their products. Some of our team favorites include Mist of Wonders, Ultra Defining Gel, Plumping Primer, and SuperCream. These staples continue to perform beautifully for curl definition, hydration, and styling versatility.
We’re also excited about DevaCurl’s newest release, Quench-N Define Curls Gel. This strong-hold, non-crunch styler enhances curl definition, locks in moisture, and keeps curls frizz-free for up to seven days. It’s perfect for medium to coarse textures that crave hold and hydration without stiffness or buildup.
Whether you’re a long-time Deva fan or exploring curl care for the first time, DevaCurl offers tried-and-true performance that remains a favorite among our guests and stylists alike.
Redken
Our partnership with Redken continues to grow each year. We’re thrilled about the new Acidic Bonding Concentrate 24/7 Night & Day Serum, a leave-in treatment that strengthens and protects hair around the clock. It helps reduce breakage, boosts hydration, and keeps hair soft and glossy whether applied to damp or dry hair.
We’re also loving the newest addition to the Redken family, the Acidic Bonding Curls line. Designed for waves, curls, and coils, this system strengthens bonds, reduces frizz, and provides moisture without weighing the hair down. The Sculpting Curl Gel defines curls with soft, flexible hold that lasts for days. The Hydrating Curl Cream smooths, detangles, and adds shine while protecting against heat. The Refreshing Curl Mist is perfect for in-between wash days, reactivating curls and adding moisture back into the hair. And the Leave-In Treatment helps repair bonds and lock in hydration, leaving curls feeling strong, bouncy, and healthy.
Our main color line, Redken Color Gels Oils, continues to be a standout performer and the perfect replacement for the former Chromatics line. It provides rich, dimensional color with lasting shine and strength.
We’re looking forward to attending the Redken Symposium in Las Vegas this June to explore their newest innovations. Redken remains one of the top professional color lines in the world and continues to set the standard for quality and performance in professional haircare.
K18 & Olaplex
We continue to carry and trust K18 and Olaplex, two powerful repair systems that help restore and rebuild the hair’s internal structure for strength, shine, and resilience.
If you ever need to place a product order, text us anytime. Our orders go out every Wednesday, and we’re happy to set aside whatever you need.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
Caring for your hair and caring for the planet go hand in hand. This year, DBS Salon kept 443 pounds of beauty waste out of landfills and last year we recorded 517.5 LBS through our partnership with Green Circle Salons. That includes hair, foils, color tubes, and other materials that are now being recycled or repurposed responsibly.
Every refill and every small choice adds up. Thank you for helping us create a more sustainable salon while keeping your hair healthy and beautiful.
let’s drift into what’s making waves for 2026.
What’s Trending for 2026
The beauty world is shifting in exciting ways and at dbs Salon we’re right there keeping up so you can benefit from fresh, informed looks. Texture is being celebrated now more than ever. Waves, curls and coils are not just accepted; they’re a statement. Much like the rhythm of the ocean, we’re embracing soft natural movement in hair rather than stiff polish. We’re seeing trends like refined modern mullets, soft layered shags, and cuts with a relaxed edge that let the hair breathe and flow. Color and cuts are being designed to work with your hair rather than against it. Think subtle transitions in tone, lived-in layers and designs that reflect your natural pattern and your lifestyle. If you have curls or texture, we’ll lean into styles that let them shine instead of fight them. For color you’ll notice more seamless blends and gentle dimension rather than stark contrast - unless that’s exactly what you want. For haircuts we’re focusing on flow, movement and designs that feel effortless yet intentional, like your hair is catching a soft sea breeze. We’re excited to help you explore what works best for you in 2026 whether you’re ready for a bold change or just refining what you already love.
Color with Purpose & Mood Color in 2026 is no longer just about surface aesthetics - it’s about expression, mood, and meaning. One trend forecast calls out three key directions: Chromatic Courage (bold tones like soft lavender, future-dusk blues); Nature’s Whisper( earthy, calm shades like dark chocolate, spicy copper); and Next-Gen Shine (metallics, light-reactive finishes).
Another major shift is the rise of “color-melting,” a technique that creates ultra-smooth transitions between tones, replacing high-contrast highlights with subtler blends.
Expect to see invites for warmer copper glows, lavender nuances, and seamless melt-techniques that feel more lived-in and luxurious rather than stark.
Haircuts & Movement That Work With You Runways and industry features are pointing toward cuts that combine polish and ease. Think softly layered bobs, box-bobs with curved ends, curtain bangs, and mid-length shapes designed for movement. Accessories and styling are also stepping up -hair jewelry, clipped-in touches, and “barely-there waves” (also called “ghost waves”) are rising via social platforms. We are looking at styles that feel active and alive: cuts that frame your face, highlight your best texture, and move as you move (whether you’re working, relaxing or dancing).
Texture Takes Center Stage & Styling Evolves Texture continues being celebrated - for waves, coils and curls alike. But what’s new is the way styling is adapting: less rigid structure, more lounge-in-the-surf feel, more “soft wind in the hair” over stiff polish. The idea of hair flowing with life, rather than being forced into place, is gaining traction.
Styling tools and products are leaning into this too: reactivating stylers, mist-refreshes, less heat, more braid/clip structure, more “let’s see your texture speak” approach. We invite you to lean into what your hair does naturally - our job becomes highlighting that rather than suppressing it.
Here’s how we keep everything running smoothly at dbs Salon.
Friendly Reminders for 2026
Our Schedules, Online Booking & Waitlist Each fall, we finalize our vacation dates, education days, and adjust schedules for the coming year. While we do our best to avoid changes, sometimes they happen, and we’ll always reach out right away if your appointment is affected.
We encourage you to prebook your 2026 appointments, especially for evenings, Saturdays, or color services. Simply reply to this email with your name, preferred stylist, and services, or ask your stylist at your next visit.
Fridays and Saturdays continue to be our busiest days, with most of our team working together. If you need a downstairs station for accessibility, please let us know so we can plan ahead. Likewise, if you need space for privacy let us know!
We’re growing, and we’re so excited to share that both Jennifer and Vina are now building their schedules for the new year. If you know someone who would love DBS Salon, we’d be so grateful for your referrals. Jennifer has openings for Curly Cuts, Barbering, and basic Color Maintenance, while Vina is now booking Curly Cuts and Color. Your support helps our team grow and makes it possible for us to welcome more wonderful guests like you.
Online Booking To make sure our loyal guests have first access to appointments, online booking for new guests is turned on after their first visit. You can log in anytime to see your appointments, purchase history, and make changes. Please use the same email we have on file and check that your text and email reminders are turned on. If you don't have online booking access, please let us know and we will update your account promptly.
A credit card is required to reserve appointments. Cards are only used in case of a late cancellation or no-show fee. We accept cash, check, credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay (no Venmo or PayPal).
Cancellation Policy We ask for 48 hours’ notice for cancellations. Late cancellations are charged 50% of the reserved service, and no-shows are charged in full. If we can fill your spot, we’re happy to waive the first fee by applying it toward your next visit. Please don’t ghost us - we’ll be worried! Please, reschedule if you are ill.
Arriving on Time Thank you for arriving on time for your appointments. If you’re running late, please text us as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly. Depending on the situation, we may need to add extra time to your appointment, adjust your services, or in some cases, reschedule. Guests who arrive more than 15 minutes late and need to be rescheduled will incur our late cancellation fee of 50%. While we do everything we can to avoid this, it’s sometimes necessary to keep the day running smoothly for everyone. If you have time constraints of your own, please let us know so that if we’re ever running behind, we can do our best to work with your schedule too.
Get on Our Waitlist When our guests need to reschedule, we do our best to fill those openings quickly. Our current guests get first access to any available spots (you can text us to join this list), followed by our new guest waitlist. Most of our guests visit every 12 to 16 weeks, so we reserve new guest bookings within that same timeframe. For last-minute availability, be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook @dbssalon where we share any same-week openings.
Refill Station Don’t forget our Innersense Organic Beauty refill station. Bring your bottles to refill shampoo or conditioner and get 20% off the refill price. Thank you so much for spreading the word about our open position! We’re looking for one amazing person to join our team by March. Please share with your friends or family who might be a great fit - or if this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
Associate Stylist Position DBS Salon specializes in curls, low-maintenance styles, and vivid color. We’re searching for an Associate Stylist who is eager to learn, grow, and help us provide the best possible experience for our guests.
The Associate Stylist works alongside our stylists, assisting with color applications, custom lightening services, and styling. They help educate guests on product use, provide relaxing scalp massages, and ensure each appointment runs smoothly from start to finish. Associates are the right (and sometimes left) hand of their mentoring stylist, helping create a welcoming and supportive environment for every guest.
Education is a key part of our culture. Associates attend monthly in-salon education and receive mentorship to grow their technical and communication skills. Once confident in their craft, Associates are given “opportunity days” to bring in guests and practice their techniques.
Promotions to Level 1 Stylist typically occur within 2 years, depending on readiness. All Associate Stylists start at $20 per hour, plus individual tips and a shared tip from their assigned stylist.
We’re excited to find someone who wants to grow with us and become an important part of our salon family. Licensed cosmetologists or those enrolled in an approved apprenticeship program are encouraged to apply.
