Freezing Temperatures
are Coming,
Are you prepared?

Freezing temperatures are coming and your pool and hot tub are at risk of freeze damage whether your pool or spa are open or closed. Freezing temperatures can damage your pool and spa lines if the pool or spa is not closed yet. Freeze damage can also occur to your cover if it is not properly secured or if there is too much water on the cover.  Below you will find our freeze damage prevention tips that we have gathered after 30 years of caring for pools and spas in the Northern Illinois area. The colder weather has arrived early and preparation is needed whether your pool is open or already closed down for the season.

If your pool is OPEN

If your pool is still open make sure to keep your pump and filter running to keep the water circulating 24/7. If the water is not circulating you run the risk of freezing the pipes and irreparable damage to the pool and your equipment

PLEASE NOTE
If you have deck jets, slides, water feature, etc make sure to have these on and running as well to keep water flowing through them to prevent freeze damage.

If your pool is CLOSED

If your pool is already closed for the season this freezing can still affect your pool as well but more importantly your cover. It is important to keep your cover free of water to preserve the cover and prevent the cover from falling into the pool or tearing. The more rain that sits on the cover the more strain is put on the cover. Once the water freezes that weight will sit on your cover until it melts, which can be months.

Freeze Protection For Spas

If your spa is running please make sure all timers are turned off to ensure the spa continues to run. It is imperative to keep the spa running 24/7 to avoid freezing or damage to the spa plumbing lines and equipment. Some tubs have a freeze protection mode, if yours does we recommend turning on the freeze protection mode.
