 The Chinese Museum plays an important role in preserving the heritage of Australians with Chinese ancestry for future generations and to acknowledge the contribution they have made to the evolution of Australian society over the past 200 years to the current day. 
We preserve and present Chinese culture and Australian history to recognise and celebrate the identity of Chinese Australian people.

Save the date: Chinese New Year 2026 is on Tuesday 17 February, the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar -also known as Lunar New Year. It will be Year of the Horse!
 
Get set to gallop into the Year of the Fire Horse. The Chinese Museum will be hosting a range of activities and celebrations as part of the Chinese New Year Festival on Sunday 22nd February in the heart of Chinatown, Melbourne.
 
As we approach the last months of 2025, on behalf of the Education Team, I would sincerely like to thank school communities for their continued engagement and support in our Museum Education Programs.

End of Year Tour + Workshop Package Deal 
 
Are you looking for a fun and educational end-of-year activity to do with your students? End of year excursions are a fun way to culminate and celebrate students’ learning from the year.
 
Our End of Year Package Deal includes: a standard Museum Tour and a choice of one of our Craft Workshops for the special discounted price of only $18pp (RRP $23pp).
 
This offer is only available for a limited time and can only be used for new bookings for visits scheduled between 17 November 2025 to 17 December 2025.
 
The following Terms and Conditions apply:
-Package Deal is for a standard Museum Tour (1 hr) and a craft workshop of your choice (1hr). Tour + Workshop = @$18pp
-Choice of one of the following Craft Workshops: Dragon Puppet, Knotting, Lanterns, Fans, and Paper Cutting.
-Package Deal price of $18pp only applies for new bookings for visits scheduled between 17 November 2025- 17 December 2025.
-Package Deal cannot be used for any rescheduled or existing bookings.
-Package Deal does not include the following Education programs: Kung Fu, Mahjong, Chinese Ink Painting, Chinese Inventions or Life Everlasting workshops.
-There is minimum of x15 students/participants for this program.

NEW! MAHJONG WORKSHOP - coming soon in 2026

In this hands-on workshop, students will learn how to play the game, Mahjong.
 
Developed in the 19th century, Mahjong is a tile-based game which involves strategy, skill and luck where players form matching sets and pairs of tiles. Students will learn skills of memory, pattern recognition, strategy and logical reasoning as well as having lots of fun!
 
No prior knowledge is required. A complete tutorial to learn the key aspects and rules of the game will be presented and demonstrated, and students will have the opportunity to practice the game in teams.

We are taking bookings for all terms for 2026! We recommend planning ahead to ensure that your preferred dates are available, so book in early to avoid disappointment.   
For your convenience, all bookings for Education Programs can be made online at any time using our online booking form.  
 
Our online booking form as it includes all the relevant information required to complete your booking. Our friendly Bookings Administrator, Esther will reply after your form has been received and she will be able to process your booking and assist you with any questions. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
