Material palette development for our latest Vermont Project

Inside Our Creative Process
When We Begin
When we begin a project, it’s not just about plans or finishes, it’s about understanding how you live, what you love, and what makes a place feel like home. Every detail matters, but so does the cadence of your morning routine, the light as it passes through the rooms throughout the day, and the feeling you’ll have when you walk through the door.

We approach design as a collaboration, part art, part problem-solving, grounded in craftsmanship, beauty, and the power of space and place to support a meaningful life.

From renderings to material swatches to construction, our Vermont Project is taking shape.

How We Begin
Starting a home project is thrilling and also daunting. There’s so much possibility at the beginning, and just as many decisions ahead. It helps to have a steady guide and a plan that keeps things moving forward with clarity.

Our process keeps creativity alive while giving you a path from concept to completion. You’ll always know where we are, what’s next, and how each choice connects to the bigger picture. Here are the first few phases of a project.

PART ONE
The Design Phase
These early stages are where ideas take root and the story of your home begins to unfold.

1. Intake + Fit
(1-2 weeks)
We start with a conversation about your goals, priorities, and how you want to live. This helps confirm the right fit and set expectations from the start.

→ Deliverable: project scope, proposal, and initial budget range.

2. Pre-design
(2-4 weeks)
We verify existing conditions, gather building requirements, and refine architectural drawings. This sets the foundation for all creative work ahead.

→ Deliverable: base drawings and project brief.

3. Schematic Design
(4-8 weeks)
Ideas take form. We explore layouts, materials, and lighting concepts to define how your home should look and feel.

→ Deliverable: concept presentation and updated budget.

4. Design development
(8-12 weeks)
Once a direction is chosen, we develop every detail — materials, lighting, furnishings, and custom elements.

→ Deliverable: detailed design set and confirmed budget.

Keeping you grounded
(1) Regular design reviews and check-ins
(2) Monthly budget and schedule updates
(3) Clear meeting notes outlining next steps
(4) Live tracking for orders, costs, and milestones

COMING NEXT
From Drawings to Reality
In the next issue of In Residence, we’ll share Part 2 of our process, what happens once design is complete: how drawings become construction sets, how we coordinate with builders and artisans, and how every piece comes together in the final installation.
