 Bree's Barron River Bulletin

Hi First name / there,

Welcome to another addition of Bree's Barron River Bulletin.

It’s that time of year again. Christmas lights are going up, the mangoes are ripe, and the rainclouds are rolling in!

Before the busy season kicks in, take a few minutes to prepare your home and family for this year’s wet season.

This month’s edition includes practical tips to stay safe during heavy rain, updates from across the region, and a wrap-up of what’s ahead for 2026.

Stay safe, stay festive, and stay ready, Far North Queensland!

Take a look at what we've been up to in Barron River recently.

A Major Win for Our Veteran Families in Far North Queensland

The Crisafulli Government has committed $1 million to kickstart construction of an FNQ Legacy House in Cairns. This is a huge step forward in making the dream of a dedicated support hub for veteran families a reality.

Earlier this year, I launched a petition calling for funding to build the Legacy House and over 1,000 locals added their names. I cannot thank you enough for this. Thanks to your support, we have secured land and funding!

A heartfelt thank you to the Cairns Regional Council for generously providing land in Smithfield, and to Far North Queensland Legacy.

To everyone who stood behind this cause, thank you. Together, we’ve taken a major step toward delivering the support our veterans and their families truly deserve.

New Hall Confirmed for Freshwater State School

After extensive consultation with families, staff, and local representatives, the location for the school’s new multi-purpose hall has now been confirmed and it’s a decision shaped by the community, for the community.

In August last year, the proposed hall was paused after it was discovered that 26 trees would need to be removed to make space. The new hall will preserve valuable green space, provide much-needed undercover play areas, and deliver a modern facility that supports students, teachers, and families for years to come.

Construction is expected to begin mid-2026, with doors opening mid-2027. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation process. Your passion and input made this outcome possible. I’m so proud to represent a community that works together to protect its environment and deliver the best for our kids.

Partner Shout Out

A big congratulations to one of our sporting partners, Half Moon Bay Golf Club on being voted Most Outstanding Queensland Club (Regional) at the Golf Industry Awards.

It's a pleasure to partner with Half Moon Bay Golf Club and I look forward to what's ahead.

Thanking Our Volunteers Event

This month we had the honour of bringing together close to 200 incredible volunteers from across our community to celebrate the heart, dedication and countless hours they give in service to others.

We were also privileged to welcome the Honourable David Crisafulli, MP, Premier of Queensland and Minister for Veterans who joined us to acknowledge and celebrate the tremendous impact our volunteers make.

To every volunteer who attended and to those who give quietly behind the scenes, thank you for all that you do. Our community is better because of you. Please see the full photo gallery of the event here.

My Week in Parliament

This month in Parliament I spoke about some of the incredible wins in my electorate over the past few months including a new fence for Trinity Beach State School, $1 million in State funding to kickstart the build of a Legacy House in Smithfield, 130 homes back on main power after 22 months without it and $800,000 for JCU Dental to continue their amazing works.
