This week at Rooted Compassion we are highlighting our clinical director and the most down to earth person around, Alison Savage, LPCC-S. With over 20 years of therapeutic experience, training, and consulting at her disposal, Alison approaches therapy backed by neuroscience and through the lens of the polyvagal theory. All you need is a few minutes with Alison to understand the passion she has for her craft and the joy that she finds in helping people. Alison is especially passionate about helping those struggling with life transitions, grief, and trauma. She is EMDR trained and is in training to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.
Alison believes that EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and healing through the lens of the nervous system relies on the rhythm of the therapeutic connection between client and therapist, just as it relies on the connection between self and the nervous system. She is there to be present with you as you unlock stress stuck in your system, and lead you to a more rhythmic way of being.
In her free time Alison enjoys being with her family; one of her favorite parts of the day is when her whole family sits down to dinner.
“There we are, focusing on each other, reflecting on and talking about our days, teasing each other, celebrating our wins and sharing the weight of our losses, or perhaps laughing about how I yet again over-steamed the broccoli into broccoli mash.”
She also enjoys getting lost in audiobooks and hanging with friends, “especially those with whom she's shared so many of life's tragedies, triumphs, and the beautiful moments in between that we tend to forget about.”
