The Song I've Been Playing on Repeat
This month’s Coaching Corner is inspired by a song I’ve had on repeat for over a year – one that beautifully captures the messiness and magic of being human.

First name / Friend,

In the three-plus years of this newsletter, I've never written an issue about a song.

But I'm changing that today.

I've been listening to a song on repeat for over a year, and between the music and the message, I want to share it with you.

After reading this, I hope you blast the song in your office, kitchen, and/or car, and then reply to this email with: “I love this song, Margie.”

.      .      .

About one month before I gave birth to my son, I was watching an episode of Shrinking (one of my favorite shows). A song played during a powerful final scene that perfectly captured the moment.

So naturally, I opened Shazam and listened to the song the next day on my walk. It made my heart go pitter-pat.

I fell in love with the melody and the lyrics. They felt so relevant to the season of life I was in – feeling excited, lost, proud, and overwhelmed all at the same time.

14 months later, I am still listening to the song on repeat. I don't think I'll ever get sick of it.

I could nerd out on the whole song, but for now, I'll just share the chorus:

Well I've never been worse
But I've never been better
And I'm in love with the person that I'm becoming
But I'm more insecure than ever
And the more I learn the less I know, but it's alright
Two different things can both be true at the same time
And I've never been worse
But I've never been better

.      .      .

In working with teams and coaching clients, I often speak about the power of the “and.” This means the ability to embrace two things at the same time.

You can be happy and sad.
Excited and nervous.
Grateful and disappointed.
Confident and insecure.

The list goes on and on…

Competing emotions are part of the human experience, and the process of becoming the person you are meant to be.

A lot of times, we get rattled when we feel two things at the same time. We assume something is wrong with us or that we aren't okay.

But real growth comes when we accept this reality, name how we feel, and trust that we are on the right path.

So, without further ado, meet “Never Been Better” by Ben Abraham. You can listen to it on Spotify or Apple Music

Here's to the beautiful, messy, and honest journey of life.
