With Thanksgiving approaching in Seattle, many are looking for ways to give back. From serving meals to sorting food or delivering essentials, there are plenty of meaningful volunteer opportunities across the city.
Support Food Banks
White Center Food Bank
This critical local food bank is actively recruiting volunteers. Roles include helping in the warehouse, packing home delivery bags, sorting donations, or driving to pick up excess grocery items on weekdays.
Ballard Food Bank
Volunteers can assist with stocking shelves, packing client grocery bags, and preparing for holiday distributions.
Pike Market Food Bank
Located in downtown Seattle, this food bank needs hands-on help for sorting and distributing groceries. Flexible roles are available Monday through Friday.
Help at Community Kitchens & Shelters
YWCA – Angeline’s Center for Homeless Women
Volunteers can help prepare, serve, and clean up meals for women experiencing homelessness. There’s a commitment request (weekly shifts, 3+ months), and it requires a background check.
Full Life Care – Thanksgiving Day Delivery
Volunteer to deliver Thanksgiving meals and care packages to isolated seniors across Seattle. This is for people who may otherwise spend the holiday alone.
Donate Turkeys & Essentials
Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission
UGM is collecting 1,500 frozen turkeys this season to serve in their shelters and meal programs. You can donate directly or help with food service on Thanksgiving.
Stand Tall Outreach – Thanksgiving Community Drive
On Thanksgiving Day (Nov 27), Stand Tall Outreach will provide hot meals, winter clothing, and hygiene kits at Bailey Gatzert Elementary. Volunteers are needed for setup, distribution, and clean-up.
