Whenever I’m asked about my guilty pleasure, at the top of my list is chocolate chip cookies, or the double Dutch chocolate muffins from Westside Market paired with a Sublime ice cream sandwich from Trader Joe’s.

When the mood strikes, which is often, I’ll pick up two muffins and a box of Sublimes. Once I’m home, I heat the muffins, slice off the cookie from the ice cream sandwiches, and replace them with the now warm muffin, creating a muffin ice cream sandwich. Then I cut that into wedges and enjoy it while watching my K-dramas or tv show.

It's…. just try it and let me know.

Now, a close second on my list of guilty pleasures is historical romance books.

I grew up reading them, and I just love them. I love being transported into their world. I fall in love as they fall in love with each other. In my mind, I can see the characters. I journey with them. I laugh when they laugh. I yell at them. It's awesome.

And in this season, in the midst of all these Black Friday sales and everyone asking you for something, I want to invite you to take a time out and simply enjoy a guilty pleasure.

And while you're at it, pick up a book or a genre that you love to read. Think about,

What's a book you can read over and over again?
One that you lose yourself in?
One that makes time slow down for you?

I love when I’m watching a TV show and there’s a child hiding under the covers after bedtime, flashlight in hand, completely absorbed in a book.

Tap into that this weekend. Next week we'll be back with to a full report, but for today, dim the lights, pull a blanket around your shoulders, pour your favorite cup of something, and indulge yourself. Get lost in someone else's world and give yourself the pause you’ve been craving.
