Christmas Has Arrived at The Hub OC
Tamela had moved back to California from Florida, where she had been helping her mother, but when she arrived in Orange County, she lacked the resources to start over. After eight months of trying to make ends meet by living in her cramped Nissan, she sought help from The Hub Resource Center.
With support from Katelyn Dewberry, a case management worker, and the abundant social services offered at The HRC, Tamela was able to land an apartment in Placentia where she and her 6-year-old dog Nayla are slowly rebuilding her lives.
“I was happy,” Tamela said about the first time she walked into her one-bedroom apartment. “I suddenly knew I was going to have a place to eat when I wanted, to use the bathroom when I wanted, to take a shower when I wanted to.
“And my chihuahua, she was more comfortable. She's up to eight pounds again now.”
Tamela is one of nearly a hundred patrons that the HRC has successfully helped find housing. This year, the HRC secured permanent housing for 47 patrons and this holiday season, through the Give Christmas campaign, The Hub OC is aiming to double that number next year.
To Give the Gift of Home, it takes nearly $4,000 to help one patron move into permanent housing, which means The Hub OC needs to raise $188,000 to meet its goal of helping the additional patrons get off the streets permanently.

Our Thanksgiving event was a tremendous success, bringing together over 100 dedicated volunteers and more than 100 patrons from our community. Thanks to everyone’s hard work and generosity, we were able to create a warm, welcoming environment filled with connection, care, and gratitude. The outpouring of support made a meaningful impact, and we are truly thankful for everyone who played a part in making the day so special.
Next Steps: If you were not able to join us this time, no worries, we will be hosting our 12 Days of Christmas event later this month. This celebration will provide even more opportunities to support our community and spread joy during the holiday season. More details on how to get involved will be available on our website soon, so please keep an eye out for updates. If you would like to contribute in the meantime, you can support our efforts by donating through our Amazon Wishlist. Every gift helps us make a meaningful impact for those we serve.
