Hey hey, it's me again…
Anybody else still recovering from Thanksgiving or is it just me? I feel like I’ve been washing the same dishes since Thursday. And those oversized trays and serving platters? They may just live on my counter until Christmas because I have zero desire to fight with cabinet space right now.
One day, we’re going to have a real conversation about small homes and holiday entertaining — because whew, why didn’t y’all warn me? Every year, the holidays have me side-eyeing my square footage and questioning every decision I made about “cozy living.” The season just started, and it is already trying to take me OUT.
I’ll be honest — I had a moment where I stood in the middle of my kitchen, looked around at the mess and the noise, and laughed to myself like… Girl, this is the life you prayed for. Full, loud, messy, beautiful. And yes, sometimes overwhelming.
But somewhere in the middle of the chaos, the leftovers, the laundry, and the never-ending pile of dishes, I realized how blessed I am to have people to cook for, space to gather in, and traditions that still matter. Even when they stretch me thin. Even when I want to crawl in bed and hide.
Every time I look at the grands, I’m reminded to slow down and soften. To let things be a little undone. To let the house be lived-in. And if that means letting ish sit on the dining table until January, so be it.
Gratitude, exhaustion, and a lil’ messiness can absolutely co-exist — apparently that’s my holiday theme this year.
And a quick shout-out to every woman who keeps the holiday traditions rolling — the prepping, the shopping, the cooking, the cleaning, the hosting, the “make it magical even when you’re tired” energy. You are the heart of these moments. Under-appreciated? Often. Unnecessary? Never. I see you.
