Last month, for Safer Business Week, the security team at Coventry BID focused on getting out on the ground with the Priority Crime Team from Coventry Police to take proactive steps against shoplifters and other retail-related crime in the city centre.
Throughout the week, officers worked closely with local retailers to identify and disrupt known offenders. Several individuals acting suspiciously around stores were swiftly challenged, helping to deter potential theft and send a clear message that shoplifting will not be tolerated in Coventry.
In one notable incident, one known offender was observed behaving suspiciously around several retailers. Thanks to the quick work and professional approach of the Priority Crime Team, the individual was stopped, engaged, and given clear advice to leave the city centre. This firm but fair intervention helped prevent further disruption to local businesses and reassured shop staff and the public that police presence is making a real difference.
These targeted patrols are a key part of Safer Business Week’s goal: improving situational awareness, communication, and proactive policing to tackle business and retail crime. By maintaining high move quality — being visible, alert, and in the right place at the right time — officers continue to make Coventry’s city centre a safer and more secure environment for everyone.
