I used to think Star Wars was just a bunch of aliens doing space stuff and fighting for…who knows what.
Like, sure—I knew the pop culture references most people know like:
Leia’s cinnamon bun hair.
Lightsabers.
Yoda.
Chewbacca noises.
And obviously…
“I am your father” (one of the biggest plot twists in the space world apparently?!?!)
also Adam Driver, aka my imaginary lover but ya know 🤫
So yeah. I had heard of Star Wars. I just didn’t know WTF it was actually about.
I had no idea it was like…space politics. I didn’t know what the actual storyline was. It just wasn’t my thing. And I had no real desire to try either.
But my husband is a Star Wars nerd, and he’d been trying to get me into it for years.
Sure, we’d “watch” the movies together, but it was more like Star Wars was playing in the background and I was playing games on my iPad or Super Mario on my Switch.
I wanted to care. I really did.
But I just didn’t understand it.
The timeline confused me.
The characters confused me.
The “you have to watch this one before that one even though it came out later”??
I am confucius!!!
I kept saying I just wish there was a hot-girl-splanation Star Wars YouTube video.
Lead with drama. Give me the cliff notes, but make it interesting.
So one night, I finally committed.
A little weed (hehe).
A little motivation (boba + popcorn).
And a deal I made with the hubs:
“I’ll watch this, but I’m gonna ask a lot of questions…and you’re gonna let me ask”
And y’all…
I WAS HOOKED ON PHONICS!!!
He came through with the digestible, hot girl version of Star Wars.
None of that “galactic senate mumbo jumbo” that made me avoid it in the first place.
Just the good stuff:
Who’s fighting, who’s toxic, who’s a liar and a snake, and who’s secretly somebody’s dad.
Okay, that part I did know going in, but soooo juicy this time around!
Once I got the context in a way that made sense to me, I was IN.
I had takes.
I had theories.
I was INVESTED.
We’re still making our way through the newer stuff, but the difference is now, I actually wanna keep watching!
Because once something finally makes sense, it’s way easier to care.
And when you care—you get to enjoy it, engage with it, and get what you came for.
