Trust is easy to recognize but harder to define. What we do know? Trust is critical to human connection and creates a foundation for meaningful change.
One element of trust we each have control over is ourselves, how we show up in every interaction.
Who are you when you show up? Who would you like to be? What does it look like when you're consistent in being your best you?
Recently, I showed up in a way that didn't feel like me at all. During a professional conversation, I got emotional and upset in a way that felt terrible. 🙈 Not at all who I wanted to be. Ugh. I hated that it happened.
But here's what I learned: that uncomfortable moment helped me step back and reflect on why it felt so misaligned. So I followed up. I owned it. I apologized. And I found space inside myself to be okay with messing up. Then I moved forward.
None of us are going to get it right every time.
You already know more will be coming in future newsletters on trust because it is absolutely fascinating and important. There's so much research on it! What matters is this: every interaction you have is a chance to build trust. And when you miss the mark, you have the opportunity to recover.
A Next Step
If there was one thing you could pay a little more attention to in your actions, your words, your way of being—what's the potential to build trust?
Take a moment to think about it. That small shift could make all the difference.
