Delivering for our Community Halls

 

I’m proud to share that the Crisafulli Government is delivering $2 million in upgrades to halls across Far North Queensland, including Kuranda, Koah, Stratford, Yorkeys Knob, Machan’s Beach and Holloway’s Beach.

 

The $2 million in improvements will deliver better facilities, greater accessibility, and reliable emergency capability. They include:

Kuranda Range Road Update 

 

There will be no scheduled night closures from 18 December 2025 through to the end of January 2026. Night works will resume under single-lane traffic control in early January 2026. 

 

 

Works will pause from Friday 19 December 2025 and resume on Monday 5 January 2026 to support safer travel over the holiday period. A single-lane traffic control point will remain at Henry Ross Lookout.

 

 

Reconstruction is now complete at six slips in this area (four upslope and two downslope).

Stabilisation works are ongoing at two downslope slips.

Day and night crews continue major stabilisation work on a large downslope slip approximately 200m towards Cairns from the lookout.

 

Reconstruction has been completed at one upslope slip in this section.

Stabilisation continues at one upslope slip on the Cairns side of the hairpin bend.

 

 

This month in Parliament I rose for a young woman whose name has become synonymous with heartbreak across Far North Queensland - Toyah Cordingley. After years of delays, obstacles, and uncertainty, the Cairns community finally heard the words they prayed for: a guilty verdict and life in jail for the offender, with a minimum non-parole period of 25 years.

 

Toyah, your community carried you in our hearts for seven years while waiting for justice. And though nothing can erase the pain borne by those who loved you, we will ensure your memory endures — not as a victim of cruelty, but as a beacon of compassion that drives us to build a safer, kinder future in your name.
