In January, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose words continue to encourage hope and progress, even when the path forward feels challenging.
“If you can't fly, then run; if you can't run, then walk; if you can't walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”

As we prepare for the coming year, here are a few quick and free steps you can take to make your money go further in 2026.
  • Check for Benefits You May Qualify For
    • Many families are eligible for help they aren't using. Look into: SNAP (food assistance), Medicaid/CHIP, utility assistance, or payment plans.
  • Get Your Free Credit Report
    • You can check your credit for free at AnnualCreditReport.com.
    • Reviewing your report helps you catch errors, spot identity theft, and see what debts are still open.
  • Look for Bank Fees You Can Avoid
    • Go through your recent bank statements and check for: overdraft fees, ATM fees, and monthly maintenance charges.
  • Cancel “Subscription Leaks”
    • Small automatic charges add up quickly.  Look for: unused streaming services, free trials that became paid, and old app or gym subscriptions.
