HAPPY NEW YEAR, BABES! I hope you enjoyed a lovely holiday season. I know this time of year can be jam-packed with conflicting emotions. Just know I'm thinking of you and sending all my well-wishes your way

Last year was wild, and I'm having a hard time processing everything that happened in 2025. So I sort of feel like I'm dragging myself into 2026 with skinned knees and bruised knuckles. BUT I have lots of big plans and exciting announcements coming up this year. Lots to be thankful for, too. I appreciate you being here.

ALSO, who else spent the tail-end of 2025 OBSESSED with the Heated Rivalry adaptation? If you want to gush or share memes and edits, I'M YOUR GIRL.

I also want to welcome my new subscribers. A lot of you found me when you snagged your copy of Merry Meet Cutes Holiday Anthology. This will be your first regularly scheduled monthly newsletter from me. I'm excited you're here. I hope you enjoy. It'll probably be weird, but also fun. We run on vibes, sarcasm, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine references around here. 😉

Anywho, here's what you can expect in the first newsletter of 2026 (!!!)…
  1. Book Event with Lauren Connolly
  2. My Top Reads of 2025
  3. Last Call for the Bookish Advent Calendar
  4. Book Rec of the Month: In My Heart by Nora Everly
  5. Personal/Writing Life Updates: Post-Holiday Cheese Coma
  6. Monthly Recipe: Hot Cocoa Cake
  7. My Books!
  8. That's it. Don't get your hopes up.

I am so excited to celebrate Lauren's new release at our local indie bookstore. If you're in the area, we'll be hanging out on Wednesday, January 7th at 6pm at Malaprops. I had a great time reading Love in Plane Sight. George and Beth (and Grumps the dog) stole my heart, and I can't wait to chat about the story and ask Lauren all my burning questions!!! I would absolutely LOVE to see you there.

Personal / Writing Life
  • December was packed with winter festivities and holiday celebrations. I visited a llama farm with my family. We went to my town's Christmas parade. My husband and I attended a Star Wars-themed cookie exchange. And we visited family in South Carolina and Tennessee.
  • I made all the delicious holiday treats (sugar cookies, peanut butter balls, rice krispie treats, Chex Mix, sausage balls) and participated in 12 Days of Flannel (it's not real. I invented it 😂) over on my Instagram account.
  • I took two weeks off from writing but I spent that time planning what's coming in 2026. I'll have a big announcement in the new year. Plus, I'll have TWO NEW SERIES in 2026. Writing-wise, I'll pick back up with Joan's book this week. This will be the final book in the Kirby Falls series. Leaf Well Enough Alone is coming May 26, 2026!!

Monthly Recipe
I love to cook and bake, so I thought it might be fun to include a favorite recipe in my newsletters.
*not responsible if it turns out bad*

I went rogue and tried out a new recipe for Christmas at my Nana's. Thankfully, it turned out delicious. I used this recipe, but tweaked a few things. I baked the cake as instructed, and did the poke part with the hot fudge sauce. But I skipped the pudding layer entirely. And for the frosting, I just used two containers of thawed Cool Whip and mixed in one package of Swiss Miss hot chocolate powder (no marshmallows). The cake is so fudgy and sweet that I felt like it needed a lighter “frosting” layer. I topped the whole thing with mini-marshmallows and grated a tiny bit of a semi-sweet chocolate bar with a vegetable peeler (works like a charm). The whole thing was rich and delicious. And my picky uncle liked it, so I'd call that a winner.
