Happy New Year, First name / Friend!

I hope this new year is filled with beauty and adventure for you and your loved ones.

Taking stock of the last year quickly leads me to feel a real sense of gratitude - for the many opportunities, friendships, experiences, and blessings I've had in 2025 (despite also facing some challenges along the way). I'm so grateful to be able to continue along this creative path I am on, and to have you along with me. I so appreciate your support, interest, participation, comments, emails, and cheers along the way - thanks to each and every one of you, whether you are a silent observer or a regular client.

In terms of looking forward into 2026, I'm usually a little resistant to New Year resolutions and blog post roundups… I instead choose to select a theme word (or words) for the year to help guide me in my choices, focus, and efforts. For 2026, I have chosen the word ALIGN.

This word beautifully captures my intention to harmonize and balance multiple priorities that are equally important to me. Photography requires patience, precision, and creative flow—it's mentally engaging and artistically fulfilling. Physical health brings energy, clarity, and the stamina to pursue my craft. My business provides the foundation for both. Together, they create a holistic approach where none dominates, but all enhance my overall life.

Align suggests:
  • Bringing priorities into balance—not neglecting one for another
  • Creating harmony between mind, body, and work—mental creativity, physical vitality, and professional sustainability
  • Making intentional, coordinated choices that serve all my goals
  • Finding my center—everything working in sync
This year, I'll be focusing on nurturing both my creativity and technical skills in photography, strengthening my business foundation, and improving my physical health—three pursuits that are naturally synergistic and mutually supportive.

I'd love to hear about how you are approaching this new year. Reply to this email to share that with me. I respond to every email I receive.

I have quite a few updates to share with you today, but let's begin with a small housekeeping item: the new title for my newsletter. For a variety of reasons and for quite some time now, I've needed to differentiate my newsletter name from others that are out there. After much thought, I have settled upon the simplest solution (definitely not surprising, right?), which is using the same name as my online learning resource: The Art of Place. So beginning today, you will be receiving the art of place newsletters rather than Field Notes. Hopefully, I will now and forevermore be the only newsletter in your inbox with this name!

I have an important announcement this month that is certainly very exciting from my perspective, and I hope of some interest to you! I have joined forces with five other incredible landscape and nature photographers as part of a collective called Circle of Light. I'm not exaggerating when I say I'm in awe of these 5 photographers, and feel honored and fortunate to be teaming up with them! Click below to find out more about who we are and read about our mission… and an exciting new project coming soon 👀

Also included in this edition of the art of place:
