January Travels

Earlier this month we spent a week in South Carolina enjoying time with family. Touring the Charleston Aquarium with two of our grandkids, two daughters, and our son-in-law was a real treat. Scott and I also loved the day we spent at Middleton Place, a large plantation with a rich and impressive history. The talks given by the guides, the historical displays, and the camellia gardens were amazing. We even saw two large alligators soaking up the sun while we enjoyed a delicious lunch inside!

The Colonial era has inspired my wonderful stories. I especially enjoy those written by Laura Frantz and Lori Benton. I purchased a detailed guide book and considered writing a story inspired by Middleton's history . . . but for now, I want to focus on my historical romance novel set in Yorkshire, England. Read more about that below!

My Work in Progress

I'm about halfway through writing my next English historical novel! Set amid the wild beauty of Yorkshire, England, Echoes Across the Moors follows three sisters who are given one year to make a neglected family estate their home, or they will lose it forever. As unexpected setbacks and financial pressures mount, the sisters begin to wonder if returning to London is their only option. Then a surprising discovery, an old photograph believed to feature the Brontë sisters, opens the door to hope. With the help of a kind and handsome young solicitor, they begin to uncover the truth behind the photograph and discover that faith, perseverance, and love may hold the key to preserving both their family legacy and their hearts. I'm working toward a late fall 2026 release and hope to show you the beautiful cover soon!

What I'm Reading and Recommending

The Belle of Chatham by Laura Frantz ~ What a treat to read a historical novel set in New Jersey! With our country celebrating its 250th birthday this year, it's the perfect time to read (or listen ,as I did) to a story set during the Revolutionary War. It's romantic and inspiring! Visit Laura's website to learn more and purchase your copy.

Sense and Suitability by Pepper Basham ~ Pepper is one of my favorite authors, and she did a great job with her first Regency Romance. I also listened to this one, and the narrators, both male and female, did a wonderful job bringing the story to life.  Visit Pepper's website to learn more and purchase your copy.

Draw Close to Jesus by Heidi Chiavaroli ~ This lenten devotional is written in a very creative fictional style, bringing the people and events to life as we prepare for Easter. Each chapter will touch your heart and inspire you as you move through the 40 days of lent. Visit Heidi's website to learn more and purchase your copy.

My Word for 2026: Anchor
Image item
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews 6:19
True hope is not wishful thinking or optimism in circumstances, but a sure and steady confidence anchored in Jesus Himself. The hope we read about in Hebrews 6 is founded on God’s unchanging promise which are fulfilled through Jesus, who has gone before us as our High Priest. Because Jesus has entered the presence of God on our behalf, our hope is secure and firm, holding us fast when life feels uncertain or overwhelming. This anchor does not drift or fail . . . it is fixed in Jesus, who faithfully keeps every promise God has made. He is our promise maker and promise keeper.

Did you choose a word to focus on this year? I'd love to hear what you chose. Just reply to this email and let me know. I'd also love to hear what you're reading, or just how you're doing. Thanks for being a faithful reading friend!

Until Next Time ~ Happy Reading,
Carrie
