Dear First name / friend,
Welcome to Day 2 of the January No-Shopping Reset.
Yesterday, we pressed pause.
Today, we figure out what pushes the button.
Because shopping urges don’t come out of nowhere. They’re usually triggered by something specific — and once you see the pattern, it’s a lot easier to interrupt it.
I’m doing this right along with you, and I can tell you from experience: the trigger is often predictable.
Today’s action:
👉🏼 When you feel the urge to shop, stop and name the trigger.
Common ones I see (and fall into myself):
Scrolling social media
A sale or “limited time” email
Boredom
Stress or feeling overwhelmed
Wanting a dopamine hit or mood boost
You don’t need to fix anything today.
Don't beat yourself up.
Just identify what set it off.
If you’re using a notebook or your phone notes, jot down:
What you wanted to buy
What you were doing right before the urge hit
That’s it.
The goal here is information. Once we know the trigger, we can stop letting it run the show.
Talk tomorrow,
Beth
